Geek Out Challenge Day 4 - Worst Con Experience

Thanks to Megan at A Geeky Gal and this list of prompts, I’m participating in her 30 Day GEEK OUT!

Today’s prompt is about my worst con experience.

Which actually has very few pictures. SDCC in 2013(I think?) had the worst security team in the history of security.

In addition to a staff that was clearly new to the gig, they also were man-handling the crowd and the people there. Shoving con attendees was so bad that there were almost fights between the people and the bastards in polos (as we were calling them). For the most part I’ve done fine with security at SDCC. I like everyone else just followed the rules, asked questions and stuff. You know, the usual.

But that year, I got shoved by a dude 2.5 my size who only backed down because my husband and the other people in line (we were waiting for a Hunger Games pin) all stepped up to him and said he was wrong for not just shoving me with no cause but for being a jerk, and picking the shortest person in line.

Again, I’m a fan of questioning authority, SDCC is probably the most compliant you’ll see me actively being. But that year, was rough, and I’m so glad we have had better security since. Some of whom I look forward to finding every year and saying Hi to!

Have you had a terrible con experience?

30 Day Geek Out Favorite Con Experience

Thanks to Megan at A Geeky Gal and this list of prompts, I’m participating in her 30 Day GEEK OUT!

Today’s prompt is my favorite con experience…which I’m translating to mean favorite con moment.

And while I have quite a few nothing will beat SDCC 2007 (I think) when I made my brother and his friend come to the Shonen Jump panel with me. See I had been hearing a lot about Marvel looking to make a manga, and the hero was named Ultimo. Ultimo was a written and created by Stan Lee, and I’m sure you know where I’m headed here…

My face s so moon-like and young.

My face s so moon-like and young.

During Q&A i committed the ultimate taboo. And you know what? I actually don’t give a frak. I have a picture with a someone who was a hero of mine, my siblings and my father.

After a Naruto announcement that year, Shonen Jump announced the had a special guest. I looked to my brother Charlie and said “five bucks says Stan Lee.” And in he walked in. My brother and I straight up did this exact move y’all:

jumpforjoie..gif

This wasn’t a ballroom or anything either. The room wasn’t full, and I bought my badge the week before y’all. It was an innocent time back in those days LOL! jk it’s all been groovy.

But he took three questions. I bidded my time, waiting to be the last, hoping beyond hope, beyond luck and hope again that I’d get picked. And I did, and I asked the forbidden question: “Can I get a picture with you?” And Uncle Stan said yes True Believers! He. Said. YES!

I floated up to him as if on a cloud. Trying to pull my brother with me, who was in a daze and I just kept walking forward not believing my good fortune and providence of that day. My tiny phone luckily ha this little camera and I was so happy i had finally switched from a nokia to my Pantech C300 (Check out how small it was here).

I loved this moment so much. I’ve never asked this question again, nor will I. But I took the moment that felt right. And I got my best moment at a con ever!

What is you’re best convention moment?

SDCC Workout Cosplay

It's been a while, but TBH, part of the reason why was gearing up for,

and getting distracted by

SDCC.

This weeks Workout Cosplay is inspired by the SDCC-Eye logo, and, by the people I saw wearing workout attire! They looked so comfy...and ready to run after celebs and artists...or sprint to the insanity that is the Funko & Hasbro booths!

SDCCEye.WorkCos.jpg

Seriously though, I really like yellow and grey together! I actually have that laptop backpack in pink and grey and used it at SDCC this year! It's SUPER comfy and lightweight! It would be great to transition from gym to work to con to whatever else life throws your way!

Speaking of life throwing things at you, here's an SDCC-Summer-Super-Powered Inspired playlist! Mostly, its songs I felt spoke to my feelings of belonging as a nerd, and how for the most part, SDCC feels like home, away from home...even when I miss home (LOL):

Hope you're having an amazing summer so far! Also, let me know if you have any workout cosplay's you like to see in either the comments or tweet me

Comic Con 2014 Hangover

So in case you missed it, this past weekend was San Diego Comic Con (SDCC)!
I attended as is tradition, and for the FIRST TIME EVER: I cosplayed!!
Jason as the Penguin, Topher as Riddler; your's truly as Joker!
I think I did ok for a my first time (I don't count Halloween, since it's Halloween. But that's just me...not a rule, or guideline, just more to challenge myself!). Also, while I thought I might scare little kids, but they LOVED my hair! Their expressions of "Your hair is so cool," and,  "mom, that's what I want my hair to look like" made my ego inflate in a much needed way. But this one little girl at the Monster High panel said "I LOVE your costume! It's the best Joker I've ever seen" made me feel like a million bucks! And luckily it was early on in the day, so I think it helped me not shy away from having my picture taken.

Cause if a kid tells you your costume is the best, then it's gotta be true, right?

So, because I have been prepping me, my costume, and my home for SDCC, I know I've been on a bit of a hiatus...and so I hate to do this again, but, I WILL resume next Wednesday with a Workout Cosplay next week! And I am hoping to picture spam you all with my SDCC photos...despite my inability to take a selfie...and my shaky hands lol!

I seriously already miss SDCC! This one was sooooo good though!

July has been an emotional month, and SDCC was so important for me to go to. My hubby missed the con this year as he has joined the Air Force at the beginning of the month. Also, family and friends have been in and out of the hospital--and not for small things either. It's been a roller Coaster.

Seriously, thank God for SDCC, cause in all it's magical geeky mayhem--it kept me sane!

Anywho, I plan on writing more later, but just a quick update for now. Catch you on the flip side!

IDK, but I do so love wishlists. Sure, I may not get everything on them, but they are a great way to either get over it, or, just wish upon an internet star!

First up, is something for the Chapstick Addict--like me! Also it coincides with yesterday's post (and this one from January).

Next, is a pretty painted figurine of one of my favorite magical girl anime heroines: Princess Tutu! The only thing is, that price is a bit too steep for me. But it's lovely--and hand painted!

Then my magical girl love continues to my first love: Sailor Moon! This is the brooch she wears as Eternal Sailor Moon, which was a part of the "final" series Sailor Moon Stars...which never got play. I'm super ecstatic for the reboot, because I know the Stars story line will make it here (though I own 4/5 series).

My sister is having twins: a girl and a boy! And my sister has always been a Superman, and, Wonder Woman fan, so these burb cloths are so awesome, cute, and SUPER for her!

Last, we have my most desired SDCC Exclusive! Gosh these things are hard to get, but I will try...yet again this year. I lucked out last year...but Mattel needs to limit these to 2-3 per person...Not SIX. They are Manny Taur and Iris Clops! I think Iris is adorable!

My most desired San Diego Comic Con Exclusive
by Mattel
The people who have stalls on the floor get six, and then, have all of their family purchase six each...so they sell out within an hour and a half from opening the con doors. But I MUST succeed (PS, if you get to get one, I'll throw on an extra $10 "finder's thank you" they are $40 as is...more than $50 is a bit steep to me). Anyway, I apologize in advance for any future gushing about these two that will (more-than-likely) happen again!

Cheers to you this weekend! Today is my Friday, and I must say, the reprieve is much needed!

Any plans this weekend?

The Frame Job

Last weekend, we finally, FINALLY got some frames for some of our favorite pieces from the past two Comic Cons.
I've been going to Comic Con since 2004 (a recent reminisent trip to LJ reminded me) and the Tenor has been going since 2011 when my brother kindly lent to his pass to Sunday to his (then) future bro-in-law.

In 2012 Tenor and I were married and we got our first piece of art together:
by Mike Yamada and Victoria Ying
Not going to lie, when we saw this...the Tenor and I "awww'd" cause it was our first con as a married couple (I have some sappy moments...I blame him for bring that out heehee).

Next we framed a gift from our friends Topher and Jay:
by Tom Richmond
I think caricatures are really entertaining and seeing all 11 (pre-Capaldi announcement) in this form makes for a funny comparison. I love that it's different shape too! Makes for a interesting piece!

Last up is an epic calendar we found last year! It can tell you what day, any date (say your birthday) will land on on in any year between 1600 and 9999 (you might have seen it already on my Instagram).
by  Russell Walks
And, I got a frame for this photo I won from a giveaway at Harlynn's blog Mind Your Madness, taken by Mandy of Ginger Mandy Photography

So the walls in the apartment are looking a lot better!

This week I've been working on mailing some stuff, and playing around with clay. I've made a snitch and Thor's helmet so far (I blame my dad's love for comics and mythology,  Adventures in Babysitting, and, EverWorld for my love of Thor and Loki...and then Tom Hiddleston [: )
OK, they're a bit dinky, but it was my
first try at anything like this in l3 years
And Well, that's what I working on...and this here blog.

How was your week?
