Joie Fatale's Blogging Resolutions (Fandom Friday)

This Fandom Friday post is brought to by the letter N, for (The) Nerdy Girlie, and the letter S for Super Space Chick. And by readers like you

Today's Fandom Friday is about our blogging resolutions for the new year!

Over this last year, I have learned a few things, that I would like to implement into my blogging-style/resolutions. I have 6 technically, and since I want to do them, I'm posting them, so I will truly hold myself accountable. Here they are for all to see (in no particular order):

1). Be ahead of Schedule/Steward of my Time- Since moving a few month's ago I've really had this resolution be the biggest, and most important! If I had been ahead of schedule, I would have had a few posts up for you all to read. I'm sorry for that. I love my little blog, and am really grateful to be doing it! Thank you for hanging out here! For this resolution, it's not just about planning my posts--which I do--but also having them outlined, typed, and scheduled for posting, in a rotating order. Like one would in college where you have a bunch of papers to write. Work a little at a few, and be ahead. NOT last minute.

2). Not to worry/stress so much- I have a hard time not stressing about anything (literally, anything...I'm like a mouse...I stress over everything). Spelling; images; sourcing; etc.

3). Weight-loss progress- I've actually been making this more of a priority and I have been going to the gym five days a week for the last two weeks with my friends. It helps that we are going together, and, that we go early in the morning. Since I am, I should also have more progress, as this year has been so insanely stressful, that I didn't have much progress happen.

4). HTML/Design basics- I want to learn how to jazz up my blog be it via the banner, or background, or, entry title font. I want to be able to do that.

5). Crediting the Artist- I already try REALLY hard to do this, but I'm hoping to have all pictures I use (or have used) on this blog sourced. Having gone to many places, where I see a cool piece of fanart/gif/craft/etc., and, I want to see more by the artist, but, there is NO information gets a bit frustrating. I want to never do that. I got a little lazy when it came to Pinterest was getting crazy difficult on my phone! Luckily, Mariko from GamerWife made this AWESOME post about How Not to be a Jerk on Pinterest which I think will help me! I'm not perfect at this (or anything for that matter) but I truly want to be a courteous blogger, and, person anyway. Plus remember in college/grad school how if you didn't quote your source, your grade got knocked down a s**t-ton?! Yeah...that wasn't fun!

6). Product/Book/etc. Reviews- I've been mulling over this since I started. Like my "paper" writing, and many of the drafts I have for this blog (seriously...it's sad). I have a few reviews milling about in my drafts, my head, and my notebook. I've been horrible reading this year! So many life events, plus my tendency to stress made reading hard to sit and do. But for 2015 I've set a new goal, to read and look forward to accomplishing that!

Do you have any blogging resolutions? Or New Year's resolutions?
Share them in the comments!
Thanks again to Megan & Kristin for Fandom Fridays! These have been a blast!

Santa Claus (or North from Rise of the Guardians...or Jingle from AC:NL) Workout Cosplay

Today is Christmas Eve (that's Toy Day if you're on Animal Crossing! Which if you are, we NEED to be friends).

So I figured it was the perfect cosplay day for Santa...or, Jingle...or North!

If you've not seen Rise of the Guardians, I would like to highly suggest it to you as it is truely very good, and, quite fun. It's not a Christmas/holiday movie. But it kind of "feels" like one. Have you seen it?!?! (Do you 'ship Jack x Elsa? I kind of do teehee!).

How about you? Do you have a favorite Santa incarnation (like Robot Santa Claus)? Or a favorite Holiday character (like my family's favorite: Krampus!!!)?

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Unicorn Magic

Sometimes, we just need a little magic and sparkle in our lives. Something other to spark our inspiration.

And sometimes, you just need a unicorn that inspires you!

Unicorn.WorkCos.jpg

I've been inspired (surprisingly) by not so much a character, but by a mythological creature. Also, I tend to call people magical unicorns when they do something I find impossible in myself.

I'm prepping to wake up and run and cycle tomorrow! And since I've never taken (see: can't afford) horseback riding lessons, well, dammit! I'm pretending that cycle is my own, Magical-Fat-Burning Unicorn equestrian riding session!

Basically, I'll be doing something similar to this:

Wish me luck cause the cycle/spin class is "Extreme Spin" which also has: push ups, ab stuff, and spin cycle. Its actually more fun then that reads (except for the cold, hard, unloving bike seats...those hurt).

Have you done spinning before?

Fandom Fridays: Gateway Fandoms!

I'm finally WiFi equipped!
And what better way to kick off, than with my fellow Female Geek Bloggers in: FANDOM FRIDAYS (imagine here, a dramatic echo). Megan from The Nerdy Girlie, and, Kristin from Super Space Chick

This Friday we are looking at our Gateway Fandoms--Our fandoms that got us into fandoms, the nerd life, the things we unabashedly *squee* about!!!
Here, friends, are mine, ranked from the most recent of these, to my very first (and just so you know, Harry Potter was number 6...and you'll see why when you get to #1).

5). Invader Zim
via

I remember Friday March 30, 2001 (you see why this is on the list?) because I knew that this new show was going to be awesome, but, unfortunately, it would not be appreciated until it was cancelled, because that's how life works. I actually stumbled across the show's premiere on Nickelodeon not because I knew it was airing, but by the luck of channel-surfing. I loved Jhonen Vasquez's Johnny the Homicidal Maniac already, and when I saw the "created by" at the end of the episode, I understood the familiarty and was hooked and have been GIR-obsessed since episode one (I even got him in tattoo form!).

4). Astonishing X-Men: Age of Apocalypse
via
This was the first comic series I ever bought for myself. In the fifth/sixth grade we had auctions based on these little paper gems we earned from doing our school work, being citizens, doing unexpected good things, etc. (think "House Points" from Harry Potter, but, on an individual basis); and at the end of a quarter we could use these gems to purchase another students item that they had brought/donated to the auction. At the end of the year, issue 1 of the Astonishing X-Men's Age of Apocalypse was what one student brought (clearly, he had already read it). Yes, I was the only girl to bid on it (granted, there were some REALLY cute Sanrio items at the time, but most of it was Spottie Dottie who wasn't my fave). Needless to say, I won (as I usually do with these things), and found out that the entire series had already come and gone from print which left me with the lonely #1 issue. However, in what felt like a year's time (it was probably only a month), I found (and purchased) this Astonishing... series in a four pack at Toys 'R' Us, and was able to read the story arc and furthered my love for my favorite Marvel character Blink!!!

3). Sailor Moon (anime)

via
There are two camps of thought. Like the Beatles vs the Stones, chances are you were fan of either Sailor Moon, or, Dragonball Z. This is not to say you couldn't/didn't like both, but, one of them is head and shoulders above the other in terms of influence on you as child in the 90's and, anime! Sailor Moon is still loved by me and I plan on making as many other fans as possible!!! It was the cute suits, at one point, but I think the coolest thing was the team of scouts who were all different people, but still fought for what was right, versus waiting to be saved by some dude. Sailor Mercury was the first person I ever wanted to cosplay as, and Sailor Saturn in still my DREAM cosplay!

2). Star Wars
via
I grew up watching this...the original un-CGI tampered with version (I'm sorry, but I HATE the changes). My dad had them on VHS tapes and all four of us kids (my younger sister, two younger brothers, and I [and as it turns out, my husband and his sisters]). Back in the day each of us would occasionally get a candy as a treat and we often would pick Life Savers, and we would each have a different flavor, and pretend they were our light saber hilts (they sounded similar in our little kid ears). We all wanted to be Jedi and wanted real light sabers...ok...I still do.

1). My Dadoo!

Art by Jeffrey Brown from: Vader's Little Princess

My dad is a nerd. That's who I get it from! He's a history nerd, a Trekkie/Trekker (he's dressed as an Alien, and Captain Kirk a few times),a Sleepy-Head (Sleepy Hollow fan), a Star Wars nerd (he had a license plate that read Darth Vader--in license plate lingo), and more recently, I've been introducing him to  Doctor Who which he likes, but has some watching to do. He watched Smallville, and is excited for The Flash and is starting Arrow! Since I was little I was a fan of my parent's, but, since this is about "Gateways" I gotta say, my dad is the number one in the arena! (Addendum: The only reason Harry Potter wasn't number 5 is because my dad was the person who got me into nerdy things...EVERYTHING I love are in one way or another because of him! So I couldn't, not list him...right?).

What are your Gateway Fandoms?

Back in Snippets

Hullo!
I am indeed still alive! I have been in the moving process and in this particular process I am going through the beloved internet is currently a "Library Only" thing.

Not a bad thing...except the walk to la biblioteca is quite far and it's quite warm...ok...it's bloody hot!

But free internet is reason number...well, it's in the top 50 of "Reasons Joie Loves Libraries"

Alas, I digress.

Here in the state of Florabama It is quite humid. But, I'm liking it so far (with the exception of the aforementioned "lack-of-webbage")

The Tenor and I found a great vegan/vegetarian place (they have both types of dishes) and a great seafood/cocktails place. We have yet to visit the comic book store, but that's the plan for Friday. Saturday we shall venture to the local farmer's market.

I've been working out at the gym near our house though! It's within a reasonable walking distance that is also primarily shaded. So I'll be sharing some of what is in my gymbag soon, as well as (FINALLY) some of my personal Workout Cosplays in the next few months!

Well, I'm off to try and catch up on you guys blogs...as much as possible! Thanks for hanging around, and I encourage you to do so, as this year I will have a lot more I'm hoping!

Cheers!

A Big Announcement

At the end of September, I will be packing my bags and leaving America’s Finest City, for Florida.
From my Instgram!
That’s right, clear across the country I will be flying and moving to join the Tenor.
This has been one crazy summer, let me tell you! Not bad, though! But exciting and stressful! July started with him leaving for training, and then there was Comic con and my first ever (not Halloween) cosplay, and my nephew going to the hospital. And then to wrap-up July/kick-off August, my sister’s twin babies decided it was time to make their debut a month early!
This month continues to be crazy as I pack up, say good bye to friends and family; and order a much needed (ok, it’s also a bit wanted hee-hee) DRESSY-DRESS, and a dress for his graduation from training (I’ll be using some blogger’s affiliate links so they can get a kickback, cause: CommUNITY)!
I’m excited, and terrified all at once. I’m so excited to see my husband again, but sad to be leaving my city. It’s been such an amazing year! I’ve got this GREAT community of bloggers, hung out with people from there (LOVE to my San Diego Geek Girls especially). I’ve made friends at church, work, and even my local Target (I go in sometimes just to shoot the breeze with them while I get MLP blind bags or grocery items).
But, the things I have wanted from life are also on the horizon. Visiting Japan, England, Germany and Austrailia seem so much more likely to happen!  And with the internet I can still in touch with everyone! I’ll still be here and stuff. It’s just seeing my everyone, and hearing their voices; or, dancing in the car; and actually high-fiving each other that I’ll miss (and other stuff, those immediately come to mind).
I know I’ll be back though. The Tenor’s family and mine are based out of Southern CA! And there’s SDCCC!!! Which for some reason when people find out about the move, they ask “Oh. You won’t be able to go to comic con anymore.” They forget that I will totally be taking a plane to San Diego for it…silly rabbits—Cons are for all!
I am going to be on a bit of a hiatus while I pack and stuff. I have some rough drafts of my usual workout posts started, but I don’t think I’ll be posting them until the 10th or 17th just because these next few weeks are bananas (B.A.N.A.N.A.S.)! I will try to get one of these other outfits posted in between (I have one that's practically done) so if not this evening, next Wednesday for sure!
Lastly, I will have more content this fall! I’ll actually have more time--hopefully! So, cheers!

Comic Con 2014 Hangover

So in case you missed it, this past weekend was San Diego Comic Con (SDCC)!
I attended as is tradition, and for the FIRST TIME EVER: I cosplayed!!
Jason as the Penguin, Topher as Riddler; your's truly as Joker!
I think I did ok for a my first time (I don't count Halloween, since it's Halloween. But that's just me...not a rule, or guideline, just more to challenge myself!). Also, while I thought I might scare little kids, but they LOVED my hair! Their expressions of "Your hair is so cool," and,  "mom, that's what I want my hair to look like" made my ego inflate in a much needed way. But this one little girl at the Monster High panel said "I LOVE your costume! It's the best Joker I've ever seen" made me feel like a million bucks! And luckily it was early on in the day, so I think it helped me not shy away from having my picture taken.

Cause if a kid tells you your costume is the best, then it's gotta be true, right?

So, because I have been prepping me, my costume, and my home for SDCC, I know I've been on a bit of a hiatus...and so I hate to do this again, but, I WILL resume next Wednesday with a Workout Cosplay next week! And I am hoping to picture spam you all with my SDCC photos...despite my inability to take a selfie...and my shaky hands lol!

I seriously already miss SDCC! This one was sooooo good though!

July has been an emotional month, and SDCC was so important for me to go to. My hubby missed the con this year as he has joined the Air Force at the beginning of the month. Also, family and friends have been in and out of the hospital--and not for small things either. It's been a roller Coaster.

Seriously, thank God for SDCC, cause in all it's magical geeky mayhem--it kept me sane!

Anywho, I plan on writing more later, but just a quick update for now. Catch you on the flip side!

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Powerpuff Girls

One of the Cartoons that came about later in my "childhood" (see: adolescence) was an IMMEDIATE hook! The show feature three little bad-a$$es who saved the day, known as:

I loved this show! It was well executed, and at a time when a lot of cartoons were employing CGI, Powerpuff Girls (PPG) had a nice traditional hand drawn quality. Like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friend, and MLP: Friendship is Magic would later employ PPG had many GREAT background characters and pop culture references sprinkled throughout!

My favorite was Buttercup. Maybe it's cause I KNOW she's Slytherin and house-pride and all that (Bubbles is clearly Hufflepuff, and Blossom is such a Gryffindor...and I mean these with no malice), but I like her take no crap attitude! I do appreciate all three girls and with that, today's workout cosplay!

I'll admit this cosplay is the same outfit in differing colors. But my two reason for this are simple: a). their dresses are the same but in different colors, and, b). it's been that kind of a week! But like the Hogwarts houses, or, Camp Half-Blood Cabins, fans tend to have a favorite between the three. So...options!

Powerpuff Girls

Powerpuff Girls by joie-fatale
1-3). Blue, Pink, Green- Protect ya mitts with these boxing gloves of awesomeness! Punch out the Gangreen Gang, or, take out the creepy and EVIL HIM with all your super strength!
4). Red Bow- If you're a blossom fan, then you know that the bow is required accessorizing! This one is nice and subtle, but, definitely there!
5). Climacool Shirt- seriously this shirt is awesome! I love the little metal beads that actually conduct heat away from you! So awesome (also, they come in a plethora of colors)!
6). Shorts- These shorts come in so many colors! And I like their length! Not too short, but not too long either!

I have three recommended viewings for this post:
1). The Powerpuff Girls- the cartoon is currently on Netflix! If you haven't seen it, check it out! And if you've seen it, go back and enjoy it!
2). Girlfight- is a movie about a girl who starts boxing to help get rid of a chip on her shoulder, and discover who she is through discipline in athletics!
3). Boxing Workout- this written one is really awesome! And boxing employs A LOT of the muscles we tend to focus on such as core, and arms!

Last off, is our playlist! Did you know there was a Powerpuff Girls "soundtrack"? It's pretty awesome! Devo and Shonen Knife are on it, so I featured those two (and of course the closing theme by the amazing Scottish-synth-pop band: Bis!).

Who is your favorite Powerpuff Girl?

Buy All the Things Thursday!

Welcome to this weeks edition of stuff I need, but don't need as much as food, shelter and...
Eh, who am I kidding! I totally need these...right?!

Ok the first item made this song's opening lines play in my head...I don't think I need to elaborate other than Sailor Moon...Compact...MIRROR!!! Talk about Moon Cosmic/Crystal Power, eh?!
via
And I don't currently own leggings..don't get me wrong: I LOVE them! I'm just shy about them for some reason. But...this pair...this pair is the game changer me thinks! I first saw these on Crissy's (from Dainty FawnBirthday list! And I agree with the wishing for these!
by HellYeahSweetnSour
Speaking of Magical Girl: one of my favorites (and perhaps, underrated) is Ahiru from Princess Tutu! I love these cute little badges...I wants them!
via
Blueberry earrings! (I have nothing I can add! They're just AWESOME!)
via
And with Mother's day just around the corner, here's a card with just enough time to get for your mum! (This card was close to being up her, but perhaps, NSFW? Wasn't sure)
via
Anything you're craving this week? Also, what are you getting your mum for Mom's day (seriously...I might need your ideas...maybe...just asking)

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Jake the Dog

Man! Where has this month gone?
Did "Adventure Time April" fly by for anyone else? *raises hand*

Don't get me wrong it's been an a great month! I just wish it hadn't flown by like Lady Rainicorn on her way to meet up with today's cosplay inspiration: Jake the dog!

One of the reason's I quickly latched on to the show was Jake. Not only was he voiced by the same actor as one of my favorite robots: Bender--the lovable rascal! John Di Maggio plays another deuteragonist (sidekick/second protaganist)!

Also, Jake is a loyal friend to Finn! They both go on crazy adventures full of daring and rescue in the land of Ooo!

And here for you are some Jake inspired Adventure-ready workout items:
Jake the Dog Workout Fitness Cosplay

1). Track Jacket - I really like this track jacket! Like orange, yellow is not one of my favorite colors to wear. But this yellow is a nice spring pastel, that isn't overwhelmingly daffodil-like. Also--as with all the other pieces--this can easily complement some white pieces for a Cake ;)
2). Iron-on Patch - I would use this super cute to iron on the track jacket...over my heart...cause Jake *hearts* Lady R! :]
3). Techfit Sportsbra - Just in case you detest yellow, you can have Jake close to your heart with this supportive, and, cooling sports bra. It has mest panels to keep you as cool as one of the coolest dogs ever!
4). Studio Shorts - these shorts are a collaboration between adidas and Stella McCartney, and I really like their design! But what's really cool about these shorts is that there are pockets!!! With snap closures so your phone or keys shouldn't fall out!
5). Premium Basic Tee - with all the spring breezes, and warm sunny rays, this jersey tee will keep you nice and cool with it's mesh shoulder panels, and it's scoop neck. I really like the curved hem too!
6). Run Seven-Eight Tights - So, not technically tights, but, not normal capris either. These puppies will give a lot of room to move and be flexible just like Jake! They also have a zipped pocket on the bum!
7). SeeYa LS - comfort beyond measure, like Jake (and other pups) you too can run more naturally and almost barefoot!!! The SeeYa's are especially light and extra flexible to encourage a more natural movement when running!
8). Pet Collar - While I'm more of a cat person, I'll admit one of the best workout buddies besides your friends--hands down has to be, a well behaved dog. They will learn your schedule and on the days you don't want to workout? Well, tough! They got used to that afternoon/evening walk and you kind of have to take them. Just be courteous and keep your pet leashed. But this collar can be for any pet, and I'm not ashamed to admit: I've walked a cat! They enjoy going out too! Well, some of them do.

Anyway, I would normally post a video, but keeping the pet theme in mind, here are some exercises for you and your dog: here, here, here and here.
You could do these with your cat,  but I'm sure they will scratch the crap out of you.

And your playlist:

Do you own a pet? Do you workout with them at all? Will you now, if you haven't before?

For Cereal?!?!

Want to hear an interesting story that just happened?
We have a wall, and then, my cubicle’s wall; there’s a gap between them. My cubicle’s wall is 5’9”. So when something falls, it’s practically gone for good!
I had a Ziploc bag of cereal. My co-worker said she was hungry. i hand her the bag and she goes "I don't want any more healthy food!" This we joke about--making her healthy, cause she loves McD's--so I go on and do an impression and am like "NO! Eff eating healthy!" while holding said bag of cereal in my left hand, and—at the end of my sentence—I bat at the bag with my right hand…
Well, I must have had She-Hulk mode on or something cause I just “volleyed” that bag over my cubicle’s wall, and directly into the gap between!
And so my coworker and I are like “WTF?!?! That seriously just happened!” and we get to thinking, CRAP! There’s going to be mice and roaches (we’re in a crappy little bungalow) all up in our space. So I come up with a “genius” and “scientific” plan to grab the bag!
I stand on the desk and pull our office vacuum up on to my desk and fasten ALL the tubes/attachments to the tube thingy. And after a game that felt like “the claw”…I retrieved the bag of cereal! I'm pretty sure I just made Thursday interesting. Or, at least, entertaining!
Welcome to Wonderland! We’re ALL mad here!!!
The End

Sharing Some Smile-age!

Happy Monday Toonsters!
This weekend was such a whirlwind for me, and while the tenor and I accomplished some long overdue goals, I am exhausted.
So, I'll share some you tube vids that I think you need to watch.

First is this Jimmy Fallon, The Roots with Idina Menzel version of Let It Go. The Tenor and I have a major crush on Idina...she's amazing! Also: Paul Rudd= A-MA-ZING!

Next, I'm so ready for April 19th, it's not even funny! Sophie put this trailer up, and I think it's about time I did too! I cannot WAIT for season 2 of Orphan Black to start!!! If you haven't seen season 1, Amazon Prime has it streaming now!

But before April 19th happens...there is April 6th!

The next season of Game of Thrones starts this Sunday and though I don't have HBO, I have Amazon Prime! And I will get to see this season!!!

If you watch the show, and enjoy Mean Girls, The Breakfast Club and other classic teen flicks--and love the sh*t out of dragons!--check out this AWESOME parody known as School of Thrones:

Episode 1: Prom Night is Coming

Episode 2: Sexposition

Episode 3: Targaryen Burn

I am so amped for this month! Are you? Do you watch any of these shows?!

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Royal Sisters Elsa & Anna

To close out March's [Un]Official Princess Month, we're capping off with Princess Anna, and Queen Elsa!
I loved Frozen and, I'm dedicating this post to my little sister (whom I love too)! (^_^)

Let me start with Princess Anna!
Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Princess Anna

1). Anna's iconic magenta cape would have translated well to a hoodie...but that seemed too predictable, which Anna does not like. So, I figured, this vest would be good combination between her black vest, and cape.
2). I was debating this black longsleeve and a teal, but I felt like, with all the blue in frozen, the neutral of the black top would help break up the coloring and bring together the shoes!
3). These shoes in fact which have a GREAT combination of the colors featured, also have a cute polka dot design on the insignia!
4).I've worn pigtails while working out and the only problem for me were the whisps of hair that liked to poke me in the eye...not fun! So I think this headband is a great compliment to the overall outfit!
5). I'll admit it: I'm a huge Roxy fan! and so when I saw these capri's that have the Frozen teal band, and Anna's skirt blue, I couldn't help using them in this outfit!
6). And, just in case you're region is warming up and that long sleeve is a little to much to commit to, these sleeves (by Groovy Baby Action Gear, whom you know I LOVE!) would go great with this short sleeved tee.

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Queen Elsa

1). I LOVE this sweatshirt! It's so cute, looks so warm, and you can't beat that design for Elsa! I like how it has a snowflake design and is in icy white and blue!
2). This icy blue shirt is perfect Elsa it even has a shimmery print that matches Elsa's iconic dress!
3). Let It Go with these awesome shoes! It has Free flex grooves that will "keep you ready for extra mileage"...like the way Elsa hiked from Arendelle to her snowy mountain!
4). As much as I love Elsa's hair, I don't think I would sport her bangs during a workout. So, this headband would be great for keeping those awesome bangs off of your face. Plus, it has 360 reflection on it so it will keep you safe, and have you sparkling a little bit like Elsa does! (sparkle-age= RADICAL!!!)
5). How AWESOME are these training leggings? They even have a glacial look to them, and, remind me of Elsa's ice castle!
6). Alright, I'm guilty...I love these sleeves! LOL! There are three different Elsa types, but these had that cool point towards the middle of the hand!

And since this post is unofficially a sister and/or besties/your sister from another mister ;) post, how awesome are these phone cases!

Frozen won best animated feature (The Wind Rises was my next hope for winning) and it was well deserved. The music was so, so, so good, and Olaf was funny as heck too (whom I though I would not like btw). I wrote a small attempt at a review back in December after I saw it.

The workout I chose for this was based on two things: first, Anna's crazy rope climbing scene:
via
And, Elsa's dress and the shimmery shoulders:
via
Soooooo, here's a shoulder workout!!!
via

There were there things I wish the movie would have done differently? I would scream YES! in just as fervent a manner as I would exclaim my adoration for it! But I really like it! That disclaimer being said, if you haven't seen it yet, please skip the blue sentence below:
One of the things I loved the most about the movie was that the "true love" mentioned was not based on the typical prince/princess coupling. It was instead the love of family, and the bond that siblings--specifically sisters--share. That being said, I felt like the proper end to this month's princess theme would be Queen Elsa and Princess Anna!

Even if you don't have a sister, you probably have best friends that are sisters! These people are important and you would fight for them too! Your "Sister from another mister" (not to discount brothers).

And with that, I leave you with this "Sisters in Ice" Playlist!

Also...the only parody of Let It Go you need to see (caution: language!)!

Have you seen Frozen?

Recap, or, Where Has That Joie Gone?

Last week was a bit of a blur! the weekend of the 14-17 was a total blast. The Tenor and I had an actual weekend off together, which is a rare occasion with one of us working a M-F, 9-5 job, and the other in retail (meaning, our days off together are rarer than Legendary Birds) it was a big deal. That weekend also included our Second Anniversary! I REALLY enjoyed the weekend.

We started off with a visit to the North Park Farmer's Market where we got lots of organic, FRESH (seriously, you can actually taste the difference!) food! One of my favorite discoveries was Coastal Local Coffee! They even remembered the Tenor and I this past week when we went again; the hubby doesn't "like" coffee, but he's enjoyed their's so far (here is their Fb Page)
NOM!!!
from my Instagram
Friday and Saturday we spent walking Lake Miramar which is this perfect five mile reservoir (IDK we call it "Lake" it's just the nickname that stuck to it). There are 1/4 mile markers so that if you want to do only 3 miles, you can walk to 1.5 and walk back to your car! It's a GREAT exercise spot, and I really love it! There are bunnies, ducks, geese, and hawks all around. Also it overlooks much of the center of San Diego. On a clear day not only can you see the neighborhood of Mira Mesa, but, you can see all the way to Downtown and La Jolla and the coast (unfortunately the Marine Layer often prevents this view, but you can still see La Jolla).

It's one of my favorite places to exercise during cool weather.

For our anniversary we FINALLY saw The Lego Movie!!! It was (as I'm sure you've already heard) AWESOME! Everything was awesome!!! ;) We also got our "Cotton" gifts for each other as this anniversary called for it (we are trying to do the "traditional" gifts cause it's fun to do prompts, but still shop for each other individually for each other) from Hot Topic. I got some awesome Maleficent socks (I LOVE fun socks!!!) and Reggie got some pants for our Comic Con cosplay idea! It was kind of perfect actually, they had them in his size!

That went to our favorite restaurant Muzita Abyssinian Bistro which serves Ethiopian food (there are veggie and vegan options too)! That place is so good! We love it...a LOT! If I was rich, I'd eat there once a week! Saint Patrick's we went to Callahan's for Irish Nachos and Green Beer!

This week went by pretty fast. We got to visit a friend who is a chiropractor.

Oh.
My.
Glob!

If you haven't been to one, may I suggest getting an alignment once just to check it out(you know, like for you, not your car)? We went on Wednesday, and I was carrying a LOT of stress in my jaw (I clench my jaw from stress...soooo more often than I should) and our friend has what's called an "Activator" device (this) he used it on the sides of my jaw...I forgot what my jaw felt like pre-stress, but I immediately felt a difference! I also got an alignment and it was amazing!

Unfortunately This weekend I haven't been up to anything too geeky music or comic or book wise. But I'm trying to change that with the last few wee hours left on today!

OH! And some great news, I'm hoping to start some PT (physical training) with my sister's fiancee! I'm excited to spend time with the both of them, and, get to know my future brother in law even more!

Another exciting thing happening this week is, we will learn the sexes of my sister's twins this weekend!!! I'm so stoked! I've been calling them the "baby cakes" so far cause they are fraternal twins (this is all we know so far). I kind of "hope" they are boy/girl cause it would be REALLY fun! But no matter what, I know I will be a VERY excited auntie (more excited than Pinkie Pie)!
Also, it's the year of the horse...I feel like my nicknames are validated!
via
Any who, this end of the month seems to be speeding up...like a snowball gather material and speed!!!
But, that means soon we will be into April, and I am really hopeful that there will be showers! We need the rain here and darn it: I want those May flowers!

What are you looking forward to this week?

Get Your Geek On! (Weekend Recap!)

This past weekend was a blast!
Friday night kicked it off with:  BODY BEAST!

I started lifting some weights with my friend B!
Here's a glimpse of Body Beast in action (I use lighter weights). Starting today I'm going to try and get T25 in before going to B's!

Also, B and her hubby (who was The Tenor's best man, and The Tenor was his) have a puppy and a kitty!!! I'm actually a allergic to little Dove, but she's so cute!!! I can't help it! Here's a post work out walk where Dove decided to play Pirate's Parrot for me! I

Arrr! Dove be a cat that likes to go on walks!
Then Saturday morning, I got to hang out with the lovely ladies from our San Diego Nerd Girls Meet up!
It was a lot of fun just plain old geeking out with some of my fellow geeky/nerdy ladies! We talked shop, and shared books and went over comic con plans as well! Check out The Nerdy Girlie's (who organized this meet up: Thank you Megan!!!!) recap here! It was a GORGEOUS day!

Check out these ladies groovy content:

  • Gen and Autumn put out an amazing nerdy podcast called Nerd In Transit which I finally got to listen to Saturday and Sunday! These ladies are HILARIOUS beyond all belief! Also Gen has done the most AMAZING Lady Loki cosplay ever! And Autumn, had me at (in reference to the book I brought) "Is that a Thursday Next book?"
  • Rebecca is an artist and writer and she has an adorable and fun web comic called Little Vampires! I LOVE classic monster movies, and since I've started reading this Saturday afternoon, I've been grinning at how genuinely fun the comic is! There's not just vampire, but also Frank (Frankenstein's monster), and Wolfie (wolfman!). This comic in particular had me literally LOL!
  • Tomika is a fellow book-lover and artist! Her blog features some great reviews and book musings at her blog book/art/love!
  • Brooke  is the writer of The Adventure is Afoot (who had a GREAT countdown to Sherlock series) and I'm excited to read what's next as her countdown to..., and her Sherlock recaps were really fun reads!
  • The lovely Syl made us these awesome bookmarks for our book themed meet! All of us were stunned/happy/squeed! It's like having a little bit of Benedict of our own! Seriously: Thank you!!!!

Thank you @syllykay!
Sunday after church we went to this eat out as a group, and we all sang AC/DC and Journey and Meatloaf at our dining table...we were those people.
Hope the rest of your week is fantastic!

What did you do this weekend? Any plans for this upcoming one?

Birthday Wish List!

This is my birthday week and I've seen some of my FAVORITE bloggers post birthday wishlists, and since I REALLY like the idea, I thought I would do the same! (Thank you ladies!)

Joie's Birthday Wishlist!!!
Birthday Wishes for 2014!

1). Ok, so MAYBE I already got this for myself for my birthday. And MAYBE I'm a bit obsessed with of a CatBug fan. But can you blame me?!?!

2). I'm in need of a biker jacket to deck out, and purple or green are the colors I need!

3). If you haven't seen The Mighty Boosh...I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. But you know what? It's ok, cause you can get the COMPLETE series and catch up! (just buy me a copy eh?)

4). This is out of my budget, but damn! This ring is wicked sweet! I have a costume Nana Osaki ring that's based on a previous Vivienne ring and I LOVE wearing it. But, this one is purple...so, I mean, I'm just saying.

5). I love the Island of Misfit Toys, and the little elephant (and King Moonracer) are my island faves. Since I've been collecting POP! Figures since my dad bought my first one a few years back, I've had an addiction to them. And I just can't say no to his little face!

6). I got a free sample of this for my birthday month from Sephora. It's Make Up Forever: Rouge Artist in "N9 Copper Pink" and I REALLY like it! Alas, they are perpetually out of stock on the darn thing!

7). Oh, sweet, sweet Disneyland pass...*sigh* you are what my dreams are not-so-secretly made of! If only petrol prices would decline; then, land of Disney; you would be mine!

8). Grape Docs = life goal/bucket list item fulfillment! I have two black pairs that I bought the moment I knew I was done growing. I just want my purple ones!

9). I am sorted Slytherin (like Merlin, and a wizard I won't talk about) and this swimsuit would TOTALLY be awesome to wear. School Spirit and junk you know!?

10). I love this bag! One day Vivienne...ONE DAAAAY! **shakes fist**

I'm excited for this week! I took my birthday off (my own personal holiday)! I honestly have NO IDEA what I'm going to do, but, I'm going to do something in my city I've never done before, so, yeah!

What's something in your hometown that you've always wanted to give a shot, but haven't done so yet?

Weekly Intentions #13

1). Cleaning & Organizing- On the 22nd we will be having guests and I want to clean, clean, CLEAN!!! And my husband is more of an organizer (confession: I'm a "hide-it-under-the-bed" cleaner). So I want to clean and organize. But as you may have noticed I get stressed/over-whelmed quite easily. So, I'll start now, and take it slow!
SOOO true!!! via

2). Paperwork - I have some paper work to fill, shred, and file. I guess that goes with number one, but...ugh! No one likes this. But...responsability, am-I-right?!

3). Valentine's - Not really into it, but I want to get my mom, dad, and, the Tenor a little something just to say I consider them special on this day for loving others (I don't thing it has to be a day for loving your lover, I think it's a great day to let your friends and family know they matter to you...otherwise...I have mixed emotions about the day).
via

4). Craft project - I have a craft that I started over the summer. I just need to work on it. It's almost done. It's simple. I just need to finish it. I'm so ashamed...
via

5). Puella Magi Madoka Magica - I REALLY need to just finish this. I keep post poning it, to make it last longer.

All right! Let's get this week started!!!

What's a goal of your's for this week?

Pre Preregistration Jitters

Let me just say I've watched this twice already.

I am so scared, and excited about tomorrow.

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you feel really stressed? That's been mine!
Because my week has been my thoughts about tomorrow are much like a tennis ball, bouncing between two opponents named: "Will-the-bad-week-continue-to-tomorrow?" and, "Surely-this-bad-week-will-lead-to-good-things-tomorrow"

I am worried and hopeful about badge sales tomorrow morning.

Things tend to work out ok...but I don't want to get too cocky. I keep reading The Nerdy Girlie's SDCC info, and trying to remind myself not to worry.

But putting this into practice? Oi Vey!

And the Starbucks Double shot I just had isn't helping LOL

So what to do? Here's some things to re-happy before tomorrow morning:

  • Check this 24 Hour Music Video! It's by Pharrell, but the song is really chipper, and I like the idea of a 24 hour video, mostly because I want to know if this is legitimately 24 hours.
  • Naruto! Sasuke! Goku!...Goku?! :D
  • Saban's opening theme and version for Sailor Moon (this makes me feel good because it DIDN'T happen!...Though at that time I was in elementary, and probably would have watched it anyway. Still glad).
  • How adorable is Sandy?
Alright...see you in an hour or two!
Send me you prayers, good thoughts, and luck!

I'm going for my Comic Con badge!

EXCELSIOR!!

Weekly Intentions #12

1). Swim- Got to swim twice last week. Not bad, but not my ideal from last week, so this puppy is back up here! I want to improve my times too! Also, I feel really happy when I’m done.
2). Buttons- some for me, some for friends. Photoshop Extracurricular Activities!!! Also, practice for it too!
3). Learn Three NEW Words- This will be on these Intentions more than once. I want to both learn new words, and refresh my memory on others. Pretty excited to start doing this!
4). Do Three New Exercises- Whether they are brand new, or, new to routine, I’d like to try and do three new ones each month. No Plateau!
5). Listen More, Speak Less- difficult, because when I get really excited, or passionate…I pretty much turn into a puppy. I wiggle in my seat, even. But I do listen, but I want to listen more intentionally. And maybe work on being less of a puppy LOL. Seriously though, I like meeting people, and when I do I either clam up, or, I get really excited.

This week I will post a recap of the AWESOME time I had with some fellow geeky San Diego gals! It was so, so, SOOOOO fun!
I can without a doubt, and with all sincerity say: this is something I have been truly missing from my life! Thank God for the internet! LOL
I hope you have a wonderful week!

Weekly Intentions # 11

This week, let's try it: Countdown Style!!!

5). Water Polo- Classes at the local community colleges commence today, and I plan on crashing Water Polo. Even though I am a slow swimmer, I know I need the challenge, confidence boost, and calorie burn! Also, I just bought a new suit, and I don't want that to go to waste!
My Swimsuit pattern from Instagram
4). Drink More Water and Juice- I got a random case of the flu last week, and was sick (thus the "No-Post-Since-Wednesay" status). So I need to focus on maintaing vitamins and such so I don't get ill again.

3). Stress Less- Part of last weeks icky-sicky was stress has already taken quite a toll on my body. I might need to use some of my vacation time. I keep telling myself, but I still haven't picked any time frame. But, March is the Tenor's and my anniversary, so I might save until then.

2). Bleach More of My Hair- back in November I bleached some of it, but I am attempting to gradually bleach all of it, and white it out. I want to have it like Storm, or Elsa's!  (and if I could gain weather/ice manipulation like either of them, that would be a bonus!)
Always loved her with the mohawk! (via)
Elsa from Disney's FROZEN by princekido

1). Birthdays Wishes- This is kind of a intention for the year actually. I want to text people I know on their birthdays, and not just Happy Birthday, but, let them know what they mean to me! I think receiving Happy Birthday is nice, but this year, I want to focus on those people too! Ideally I will send via a text message, or a phone call. And if that's not available, Facebook will suffice. But, I want me to be more appreciative of my friends and family this year! It's a totally doable goal too!

Now for something COMPLETELY different!!!
I'm going to be an auntie! OK yes I am already an aunt as my two of my Sister-In-Laws (SIL) have children. BUT for the first time one of my siblings is having a baby!

Wait, correction: she's having TWO babies!!! Twins!!!

They are fraternal twins so they might be boy and girl! (OK maybe we are all hoping so☺).

I can't wait to find out!!! So amazing!

I know its still early so if you could say a little prayer/some good thoughts for these future littles that would be groovy!

I'm excited.
But not as excited as my mum! Holy moley! She is stoked!

How about you? What are your intentions for the week? Exciting news?
Hope you have a wonderful week!!
