Geeks Who Significantly Inspire Me (Fandom Friday)

This Fandom Friday post is brought to you by the letter N, for (The) Nerdy Girlie, and, the letter S, for Super Space Chick. And by readers like you!

I was kind of unsure where to start on this. I have many, including famous people like Aisha Tyler, Rosario Dawson, Stephen Colbert, Rashida Jones, and Felicia Day. Bands like The Aquabats, and the Ramones! But after an awesome summer with folks, I'm going to just gush about them. I'm not afraid to say: I love these people! Friends are awesome!
Deal with it. ;)

My Geek Out Together homies!
via: 1 2 3 4
Gladys, Gwen, and Travis are a super amazing! I got to hang out with the four of them IRL at SDCC! We've been doing Podcasts together since Agent Carter started, and having a blast, laughing, and, well, geeking out! Gladys has this immense comic book knowledge, and if anyone ever embodied a current-day Princess Leia, it would be her! Gwen reminds me of my FAVORITE book character Thursday Next, but in a younger, Jedi rebel sense. She reads so many books, and is going to school for fashion design (#hero)!!! Travis is like my Con-attending HERO! I swear, if they EVER make a Millennium Falcon car, he should get one out pure dedication! Plus, with all the con's he attends, so many people could see it! He's like a Jedi Han Solo, traveling to different corners of the US, seeing all the cool things! His Star Wars fandom is strong!
These three are so cool, and I love them!

The Nerdy Girlie
via
Megan is a sweetheart, fellow Slytherin, and my homegirl! She's an amazing writer, and I love how much of herself, and her emotions she puts into her blog! I love this girl so much! She's kicking so much ass in her blog, her life, her work, and being the best Megan she can be! I admire that, and I truly look up to her! #SheSlamsRevolvingDoors!

SuperHeroesque's Superchicks: Liz and Mia!
via

When Liz and Mia launched SuperHeroesque I was flabbier-gasted by all the positivity! These two ladies are socially conscious, smart, intelligent, and everything they say makes me think there is hope for this world! Like, seriously, I want them to be senators...no! Co-Presidents!!! If it werent for these two, I would still never have cosplayed! I finally did in 2014! To top that off, they are super sweet, and hilarious! And their podcasts are AMAZING!!! Be sure to check them out at Lilo+Mimo!

Video Game Heroines: Mariko, Lori, and Amanda!
via: 1 2 3
You know what? I LOVE video games. Before Junior High I was a arcade-mouse, and would play video games whenever I saw one. And then, somewhere, I stopped. Well, not really, I still played. But for one reason or another, I never thought I was a gamer. Enter these three ladies! While I'm still not amazing at video games, I know I love them so much as they are an integral part of my growing up, and...well, I like them! Mariko's game reviews, and passion for independent games have encouraged me to try games outside of the mainstream. Amanda's and Lori's live streams are amazing! Their dedication to gaming and sharing that passion helped me re-enter gaming! And thanks to these three, I know I belong with games because I LIKE THEM! I'm glad to no longer feel like "serious games are only for boys" and other similar bull-s***! Thank you!

#CosplayGoals: Mindy, Cazz, Topher, Jason, and the folks above!
via: 1 2 3
So, first off, some of the people mentioned above are also my favorite cosplayers too! But, I'd be remiss to not have these folks mentioned. Topher and Jason are my big brothers. I'm naturally the oldest of four, but I ALWAYS wanted an older brother! And now, I have two! I've been attending comic con panels with these two since they started going four years ago and they always have these awesome cosplays! And my first cosplay was apart of a group one with them! Cazz's cosplay's and personal style are always geeky-inspired, and a kawaii-force to be reckoned with! I remember thinking her Rufio from a 2nd hand jacket was so clever and it was neat to see her eye in reanimating an article of clothing and giving it new life. Mindy's sewing skills are AMAZING! Her cosplays continually leave me speechless. Like I swear every time I try to comment I'm left dumb-founded and all I can say is "A-MAZING!!!" (it's true though!). I love how cosplay takes everyone's different view of the "Nerd-World" at large and shows their own perspective, and (most importantly) it's FUN!!!

I also want to say to those who read this, but might not be listed: Thank you too! People being cool amongst one another, and sharing different things respectfully are just...my favorite! Cheers to you!
via
These people are my tribe. I appreciate them for who they are, how they make me think cognitively, and inspire me, to aspire for greatness. I'm not just inspired by them. But I'm grateful to them, and FOR them! Again, I say:

Thank you!

5 Fandom Friday: Geeky Items I NEED in My Closet

I really do enjoy this idea by The Nerdy Girlie, and Super Space Chick! (Luv you ladies!)
This weeks Fandom 5 are nerdy, fandom-based items that I desperately need in my closet...like, yesterday! Here are mine:

Fandom Friday: Geeky Items I NEED in My Closet...NOW

1). LumberJanes Shirt- I love Lumberjanes, and I though I got the tote and badges from SDCC, I need MORE!!! And this shirt is hardcore too ;P !
2). Tiana Tee- Tiana is so cute, and I love that she was someone already trying to make her dream come true, before the aid of a prince was even a question.
3). Sestra Shirt- Orphan Black is one of the most amazing shows, and Tatiana Maslany is and amazing actress! This shirt based on the crazy--but still loveable--Helena, and I want it so bad!
4). Xavier's School Letterman Cardigan- I like this sweater so much! Her Universe makes such great ladie-type items! I love it! This one is so cool!
5). Sherlock bow & TARDIS bows!- I love bows and, YES I wear them everyday! I want both of these and would probably wear them together anyway!

Fandom Fridays: Gateway Fandoms!

I'm finally WiFi equipped!
And what better way to kick off, than with my fellow Female Geek Bloggers in: FANDOM FRIDAYS (imagine here, a dramatic echo). Megan from The Nerdy Girlie, and, Kristin from Super Space Chick

This Friday we are looking at our Gateway Fandoms--Our fandoms that got us into fandoms, the nerd life, the things we unabashedly *squee* about!!!
Here, friends, are mine, ranked from the most recent of these, to my very first (and just so you know, Harry Potter was number 6...and you'll see why when you get to #1).

5). Invader Zim
via

I remember Friday March 30, 2001 (you see why this is on the list?) because I knew that this new show was going to be awesome, but, unfortunately, it would not be appreciated until it was cancelled, because that's how life works. I actually stumbled across the show's premiere on Nickelodeon not because I knew it was airing, but by the luck of channel-surfing. I loved Jhonen Vasquez's Johnny the Homicidal Maniac already, and when I saw the "created by" at the end of the episode, I understood the familiarty and was hooked and have been GIR-obsessed since episode one (I even got him in tattoo form!).

4). Astonishing X-Men: Age of Apocalypse
via
This was the first comic series I ever bought for myself. In the fifth/sixth grade we had auctions based on these little paper gems we earned from doing our school work, being citizens, doing unexpected good things, etc. (think "House Points" from Harry Potter, but, on an individual basis); and at the end of a quarter we could use these gems to purchase another students item that they had brought/donated to the auction. At the end of the year, issue 1 of the Astonishing X-Men's Age of Apocalypse was what one student brought (clearly, he had already read it). Yes, I was the only girl to bid on it (granted, there were some REALLY cute Sanrio items at the time, but most of it was Spottie Dottie who wasn't my fave). Needless to say, I won (as I usually do with these things), and found out that the entire series had already come and gone from print which left me with the lonely #1 issue. However, in what felt like a year's time (it was probably only a month), I found (and purchased) this Astonishing... series in a four pack at Toys 'R' Us, and was able to read the story arc and furthered my love for my favorite Marvel character Blink!!!

3). Sailor Moon (anime)

via
There are two camps of thought. Like the Beatles vs the Stones, chances are you were fan of either Sailor Moon, or, Dragonball Z. This is not to say you couldn't/didn't like both, but, one of them is head and shoulders above the other in terms of influence on you as child in the 90's and, anime! Sailor Moon is still loved by me and I plan on making as many other fans as possible!!! It was the cute suits, at one point, but I think the coolest thing was the team of scouts who were all different people, but still fought for what was right, versus waiting to be saved by some dude. Sailor Mercury was the first person I ever wanted to cosplay as, and Sailor Saturn in still my DREAM cosplay!

2). Star Wars
via
I grew up watching this...the original un-CGI tampered with version (I'm sorry, but I HATE the changes). My dad had them on VHS tapes and all four of us kids (my younger sister, two younger brothers, and I [and as it turns out, my husband and his sisters]). Back in the day each of us would occasionally get a candy as a treat and we often would pick Life Savers, and we would each have a different flavor, and pretend they were our light saber hilts (they sounded similar in our little kid ears). We all wanted to be Jedi and wanted real light sabers...ok...I still do.

1). My Dadoo!

Art by Jeffrey Brown from: Vader's Little Princess

My dad is a nerd. That's who I get it from! He's a history nerd, a Trekkie/Trekker (he's dressed as an Alien, and Captain Kirk a few times),a Sleepy-Head (Sleepy Hollow fan), a Star Wars nerd (he had a license plate that read Darth Vader--in license plate lingo), and more recently, I've been introducing him to  Doctor Who which he likes, but has some watching to do. He watched Smallville, and is excited for The Flash and is starting Arrow! Since I was little I was a fan of my parent's, but, since this is about "Gateways" I gotta say, my dad is the number one in the arena! (Addendum: The only reason Harry Potter wasn't number 5 is because my dad was the person who got me into nerdy things...EVERYTHING I love are in one way or another because of him! So I couldn't, not list him...right?).

What are your Gateway Fandoms?

Lumberjanes: A Tiny Review & Playlists!

LumberJanes L to R: Ripley, April, Jo, Molly, Mal
via
If you're looking to pick up a comic sereies RIGHT NOW, may I highly recommend Lumberjanes!!! Other bloggers have recommended the series, and I immediately picked it up, especially Cazz from Nerdburger whose review can be found here, and Gwen of A Geek & Her Oven whose review is here!

Like the ladies above, I love Lumberjanes' genuine use of girl's kicking butt and having fun action! It reminds me of Powerpuff Girls x Scooby Doo x Buffy, and--as another review noted--a little bit of Ann M. Martin's Babys-Sitter's Club for measure!

I like the comic's style as it colorful, and on the zanier side. The second those three-eyed foxes showed up in issue one, the series pretty much stole my heart!

Fox Fight!!!
via

The comic also has an all inclusive feel with diverse characters who all get along and have friendship as their glue (a la the BSC). No character comes across as a "token," either! Each of these young ladies is a person who contributes to the group, making up their solid 20 percent of the group! This is such a refreshing element to me. Each character is well balanced, and has her own specialty. In the most recent issue (number three) I swear I heard the Doctor saying to Molly "...I've never met anyone who wasn't important." Also, Ripley--the youngest, and most hyper of the 'Janes--gets thrown in a "Fastball Special" (which happens to be 1 of 5 things that I actually like about Wolverine). This is totally a comic for comic lovers, and, newbies a like though (don't let the references scare you, let them inspire you, young padawan).

At the end of every issue, I feel like I've earned a merit badge along with Jo, April, Mal, Molly and Ripley! (I should make some! Someone on Etsy needs to get on that too...like, stat! LOL).

While I would read this series based on all of the things above, you know what signed, sealed, and, CEMENTED the deal?

Those Playlists! If you've been here with you friendly neighborhood Joie for a while you know I love me a good PLAYLIST/MIX TAPE! (Even though I'm not a T. Swift fan/person/respector at all, the playlists are BOMB!)

In short I would HIGHLY recommend picking up Lumberjanes. Especially to those of you who are tired of just toeing the water, and are looking to jump in the pool!

Here are the playlists from one and two (except in 2 I took out Avril Lavine...because she is my enemy and if my life were a video game, she'd be the penultimate boss battle I'd fight). Also Fefe is luv!

Have you read Lumberjanes? What comics are you reading now?

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Alison Hendrix

Last year at Comic Con the Tenor's and my friend told us to checkout Orphan Black! She sold us the first season which we marathon-ed the following weekend.

I adore all the clones--yes, I am looking forward to learning more about Rachel--but for some reason Alison consistantly surprises me, but, not in an "out-of-character" way. This is such a GREAT testament to the writing and acting of this show! I love how all the clone have a little bit of crazy, and, three-big-scoops of bad-a$$ery in their genetic make-up!

While season two is well into it's stride, this past weekends episode reminded me why I love Alison Hendrix!

Basically this scene sealed the deal for this Workout cosplay:

All 3 images via
This scene (also featuring my beloved Felix) nearly cause me to fall of my couch from laughter! And so...Alison!!!
Alison Hendrix from Orphan Black

1). Run Swiftly Tee - I swear I saw this shirt on the show...but in longsleeve! AND I saw it on Alison! And While I wish LuLuLemon would change a few things (especially their prices) I like that detail as it can be really slimming.
2). LunarFly Shoe - These running shoes are cute, super lightweight, and cushioned! It also has GREAT reviews!
3). DNA Strand Charm - So while the clones have matching cellphones, I feel like this charm would be something Alison would find cute after she warmed up to an ironic little item such as this. It would look great on a necklace, or charm bracelet!
4). Moisture Wicking Headband- It wouldn't be Alison without a headband! And this cute little headband has a braided knot for detail and it happens to take moisture away. But mostly its Pink! ;P
5). Sonic Capris- these capris are great, and they help sweat evaporat, and are uber lightweight (I LOVE capris for working out).
6). Short Bra Top- This is a sport bra, meets tank! Racerback with preppy stripes? Sounds like this was made for Seestra Alison!

So back in Season 1, Alison is seen doing a Shaun T workout: Hip Hop Abs
wurk it gurl!
via
Now, you may know (if you're following me on Instgram) that I am doing T25, which is by the same dude. He also did the ludicrously popular Insanity (which is as it's title suggests: INSANE). I have yet to do Hip Hop Abs, but thanks to YouTube, I will by trying! And now, you can too! ;)

And of course, our playlist...which is an tongue-in-cheek pop list. You know, on the outside she's little miss Soccer Mom...but she will cut someone (and she packs heat! Gangsta!). (I also feel bad for not including a certain song that I used last week...so here's the video!)

Do you watch Orphan Black? Do you have a favorite clone? Or, are you like me, and have equal opportunity Clone love?
If you have not watched OB yet: STOP what you're doing, and go do so!

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Briar Rose

Today's workout cosplay is inspired by Briar Rose! Or, Aurora...or Sleeping Beauty. I chose Briar Rose this time around, and I distinguish between the two since she really didn't know she was Princess Aurora until she was 16 (side note: Princess Aurora is kind of  gangsta-esque...I mean, she has two nicknames and Briar Rose is just shy from Little Tweety, eh? But I digress...).

Sleeping Beauty was such a beautifully stylized film. While Aurora was a bit...*couch*lackluster*cough*. But it was one of my favorites as a wee little lass because of the animation and of course: MALEFICENT!!!

Anyway I had been planning this one for a while now (since March [:  actually)!
Here's the cosplay!
Briar Rose

1). Sweating Beauty Tank- I LOVE Activate Apparel's fitness gear! I like how nerdy and funny they can be! This one is perfect Briar Rose AKA Princess Forest Cardio (oh hey, another nickname!).
2). Rosie Earbuds- I love how beautiful these earbuds are! They'd be great for jogging and listening to the below playlist!
3). Nike shorts- I like the multiple tones on these shorts since they fit right in with Briar Rose's dress!
4).Adidas shoes- besides the iconic neutral dress, there is a pop of color in the forest scene (pic at the top for reference) where BR is talking to the the animals. I thought these Lavender and rose running shoes fit quite nicely. ALSO they have a sole that is bouncy and light for running!
5). Sleeping Beauty Socks!- I LOVE fun socks! Working in an office, fun socks can be one of those last vestiges of awesomeness that you can rock in secret! (I happen to have a set of similar socks from next week's workout cosplay!).
6). Sleeping Beauty Sports Bra- Ok...prepare yourselves for a pun! This sports bra is not only cute, but we could call it: Sleeping Boobies, or (to run with the nicknames gag) Bra-er Rose! Eh? Eh? Ok, I really just thought this was punny, and perfect for this workout.

And of course, we have our "Once Upon a Workout" playlist:

Lastly a little sing-a-long! Goes to this song: (Sleeping Beauty) I Wonder by Disney on Grooveshark
I wonder.
I wonder.
I wonder what character is up next.
To cosplay.
For workouts.
Tune in next week to find out!
 ('tis a short song)

Have you seen Sleeping Beauty? I'm curious what is your favorite part? Least favorite part? And most importantly: why is Prince Phillip so darn good-looking?

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Marceline the Vampire Queen

My favorite character from Adventure Time will be today's Workout Cosplay character.

Marceline: The Vampire Queen!

Adventure Time is such a zany show, and Marceline is my FAVORITE character (followed very closely by Lumpy Space Princess). She also voiced by Olivia Olsen, whom you may remember from Love Actually (one of my favorite Christmas movies) as the little girl who sings "All I Want for Christmas (Is You)." Also. Marceline sings and has an alto voice...so for me, her little songs and ditties in AT are songs I can actually sing a-long to!

Also...that AX! Like...litteral, ax+bass= the most awesome of animated guitars since...IDK what! Seriously...Marceline...you are my vampire queen!! And since we're talking about the ax, here's your playlist!

I decided that if Marceline particiated in a team sport (I've only seen seasons 1 and 2...lemme know if she's played anything else) it would be a something, fun, but would allow for mischief, and some aggression.
And of course, something you could play air-bass and air-guitar with (**raises hand** I'm so guilty of this)!

Enter, Field Hockey Marceline cosplay!

Marceline the Vampire Queen

1). Under Armour Red Sonic Print Shirt- This shirt boasts the ability to beat the heat from this springs beating sun--you know, something vampires like to avoid--and has the ability wick away sweat and fight, well, odor. Also I think the print is really flashy!
2). Marceline Necklace - While I don't often workout with jewelry the only thing I can really ever handle is a necklace (I even had a "lucky" necklace I hid in my suit for water polo sometimes). And This neckalce is too adorable not to include!
3). Basic Blue Team skirt- While field hockey does allow for shorts (I mean, this IS the 21st century eh?) I chose the skirt for this as when I managed, our team had this universally flattering A-line kilt for the uniform and we had ladies of ALL sizes, and all the girls looked FANTASTIC...and well, I wanted to join the team so I could get one of these skirts...but I was too late.
4). Nike Compression Shorts - And while I like the skirt, I do like to rock that late-80s/early-90s look whenever possible and these fun shorts would be great to layer under the skirt, and would bring in the signature grey of Marceline!
5). Nike Storage Band - I think I'm in love with this thing, so don't be surprised if you see it again! This thing is pocket that you can wear around your wrist like a sweatband. It can hold keys, chapstick, a small snack...or if you're on an all red diet, you can sip at the red dye! ;)
6). Brine Vintage Field Hockey Stick - Like Marceline's sweet ax, this beautiful red hockey stick is going to slay the opposition, and totally provide some fun pretend air bass/guitar playing (don't judge me).
7). Adidas Women's adiZero Cleats- Playing on a field you could be prone to some serious slipping and sliding on the grass, so cleats are completely necessary in games such as Proper Football and Field Hockey. This pair seemed like a really cool fit!
8). CranBerry Glitter Practice Ball - to practice for this sport a ball is required. And this one is super cute and sparkly! You know, adding a little glam to the ultra rockin' Marceline!
9). Shock Doctor Mouth-guard - Marceline would need to protect those fangs, and you should protect your chompers as well! With sticks and a hard-as-a-puck ball flying around the field, a mouth-guard is a necessary piece of equipment. But this guard is the coolest since it's flavored as Fruit Punch--the quintessential "red" flavor!

And (since I'm in a Field Hockey mood) some fundamental drill sets for this sport.

That's this week's workout cosplay PLEASE be sure to check out the Ice King cosplay debuting today on PonyChops!!!

Liebster Award 2.0!

Say WHAT?!  I got Liebster Award again from the super-awesome Steph at Nerdjoy (check out her Liebster Award here)!

Without further ado:

1. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Monster High. Seriously. I think they're adorable. I can't help it. I call it "The Flinstone Effect" where, all the puns, and gadgets are "monster" themed (like "ghoulfriend" and "iCoffin" and "gore-geous"). LOVE them!
2. Who would be in your dream Comic Con meet and greet?
David Tennent, Yazawa Ai, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Joss Whedon. Seriously, I'd probably smile so much my face would be KILLING me, but it would be so awesome!
From Facebook...sorry

3. Spa day! What would be your ideal way to unwind?
Oooh...I've actually never been to a spa, so I like walking this resevoir out here, and, I also like to surf/swim to relax.
via

4. What has been your greatest achievement in life?
Ok, While getting married was awesome (I never thought that would happen, but am glad it did as he's perfect for me) I have to go with: Getting a picture with Stan Lee was pretty awesome!
"Uncle" Stan and I!!! (I was much less healthy here than before, and
my brother decided he was too stunned by Stan Lee's presence to get a picture with us)
5. How would you describe your blog in five words?
Geek tries to get fit!

And with this, here are my five questions:
1). Why did you start blogging, and what have you learned so far?
2). Describe your blog in 5 words (stolen from Steph) , or, write a haiku about your blog (5-7-5 syllables)?
3). What is your favorite song that perfectly describes your life? AND What is your favorite lyric from that song?
4). I'm recycling this one: You get to have lunch with three people: one historical (real), one fictional BOOK character, and one fictional film/TV character. Who are they, and, how do think this melding of minds would go?
5). What is your favorite Manga/anime? If you don't have one, which one have been interested in the most, but haven't seen?

And my nominees are:
1). Luka Riot @ Rando Calrissian - a totally amazing designer who creates things right up my alley! A little geek, a lot of metal and punk! Be sure to check out here label Hellhound Fashion!
2). Desiree @ The Skinny Geek Within- At Skinny Geek Within, Desiree shares her journey to get fit and healthy! Also, I'm learning a bit about Tennis from her via her blog!
3). Amber from The Shiny Happy - Amber shares her life, and loves on her blog, and has been knocking out items on her "35 before 35" list. (Psst! It's also her birthday month, soooo stop by and wish her a happy birthday!).
4). Kelsey @ April Sprinkles - Kelsey is a super nifty crocheter and knitter, and has created some geeky projects such as the cunning hat, Hogwarts house flowers, and, brain slugs (a la Futurama).
5). Victoria @ Pho Across America - Victoria is a wicked ace restaurant reviewer, and she specializes in one of the most glorious foods this world has been blessed with: Pho (pronounced: fuh...like in "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads). Victoria also spotlights a lot of Asian culture; not just in food, but books as well!

Please be sure to check out everyone else's blog, and even if your not listed (since the list says five, I tried to limit myself), PLEASE feel free to share your answers in the comments, OR, totally do it on your blog cause I AM nominating you...NOW! (Let me know if you post your answers, I will put you up here on the post too!).

Have a great week!

The Frame Job

Last weekend, we finally, FINALLY got some frames for some of our favorite pieces from the past two Comic Cons.
I've been going to Comic Con since 2004 (a recent reminisent trip to LJ reminded me) and the Tenor has been going since 2011 when my brother kindly lent to his pass to Sunday to his (then) future bro-in-law.

In 2012 Tenor and I were married and we got our first piece of art together:
by Mike Yamada and Victoria Ying
Not going to lie, when we saw this...the Tenor and I "awww'd" cause it was our first con as a married couple (I have some sappy moments...I blame him for bring that out heehee).

Next we framed a gift from our friends Topher and Jay:
by Tom Richmond
I think caricatures are really entertaining and seeing all 11 (pre-Capaldi announcement) in this form makes for a funny comparison. I love that it's different shape too! Makes for a interesting piece!

Last up is an epic calendar we found last year! It can tell you what day, any date (say your birthday) will land on on in any year between 1600 and 9999 (you might have seen it already on my Instagram).
by  Russell Walks
And, I got a frame for this photo I won from a giveaway at Harlynn's blog Mind Your Madness, taken by Mandy of Ginger Mandy Photography
by Ginger Mandy Photography
So the walls in the apartment are looking a lot better!

This week I've been working on mailing some stuff, and playing around with clay. I've made a snitch and Thor's helmet so far (I blame my dad's love for comics and mythology,  Adventures in Babysitting, and, EverWorld for my love of Thor and Loki...and then Tom Hiddleston [: )
OK, they're a bit dinky, but it was my
first try at anything like this in l3 years
And Well, that's what I working on...and this here blog.

How was your week?

If My Blog Were An Outfit...

I'm late on this, but I first saw this on Sophie's blog, Sophierocious. Then, I saw it on Elyse's blog: Cuddly as a Cactus, and Usagi's at Usagi in Wonderland! And recently I've seen it on Gwen's site: A Geek and Her Oven, and, Megan's The Nerdy Girlie.

Each time I thought: "That is so awesome and fun! I need to make one!"
Well, I FINALLY have!
The idea stems from A Dose Of Paige, and, Hairspray and High-heels! I liked the idea as a kind of envisioning as to WHAT do I think about my blog and it's style.
Well, here's mine:

If My Blog Were An Outfit...Joie Fatale

I actually own 1 (I love this backpack!), 8 (my "signature" perfume), and, 9 (in different colors)! I based the outfit around my fitness goals, and yet, still with a geeky "Cartoon Rocker" flair (seriously if I had that jacket, I'm pretty sure I would become invincible)!

I tend to layer shorts and capris under shorts with pockets (6 & 7). But, to show humorous side of the blog (and me) I thought the classy water polo suit was grand (#bowtiesarecool).

I feel like these outfits should be equal parts the blog, and the writer as they are supposed to be hand in hand already eh? It's a quirky outfit...something that I would wear on the way to working out, and I think, since that's my theme for this year, it's an accurate representation.

Do you have an Outfit for your blog? Put a link to it in the comment section!

Sharing Some Smile-age!

Happy Monday Toonsters!
This weekend was such a whirlwind for me, and while the tenor and I accomplished some long overdue goals, I am exhausted.
So, I'll share some you tube vids that I think you need to watch.

First is this Jimmy Fallon, The Roots with Idina Menzel version of Let It Go. The Tenor and I have a major crush on Idina...she's amazing! Also: Paul Rudd= A-MA-ZING!

Next, I'm so ready for April 19th, it's not even funny! Sophie put this trailer up, and I think it's about time I did too! I cannot WAIT for season 2 of Orphan Black to start!!! If you haven't seen season 1, Amazon Prime has it streaming now!

But before April 19th happens...there is April 6th!

The next season of Game of Thrones starts this Sunday and though I don't have HBO, I have Amazon Prime! And I will get to see this season!!!

If you watch the show, and enjoy Mean Girls, The Breakfast Club and other classic teen flicks--and love the sh*t out of dragons!--check out this AWESOME parody known as School of Thrones:

Episode 1: Prom Night is Coming

Episode 2: Sexposition

Episode 3: Targaryen Burn

I am so amped for this month! Are you? Do you watch any of these shows?!

Get Your Geek On! (Weekend Recap!)

This past weekend was a blast!
Friday night kicked it off with:  BODY BEAST!

I started lifting some weights with my friend B!
Here's a glimpse of Body Beast in action (I use lighter weights). Starting today I'm going to try and get T25 in before going to B's!

Also, B and her hubby (who was The Tenor's best man, and The Tenor was his) have a puppy and a kitty!!! I'm actually a allergic to little Dove, but she's so cute!!! I can't help it! Here's a post work out walk where Dove decided to play Pirate's Parrot for me! I

Arrr! Dove be a cat that likes to go on walks!
Then Saturday morning, I got to hang out with the lovely ladies from our San Diego Nerd Girls Meet up!
It was a lot of fun just plain old geeking out with some of my fellow geeky/nerdy ladies! We talked shop, and shared books and went over comic con plans as well! Check out The Nerdy Girlie's (who organized this meet up: Thank you Megan!!!!) recap here! It was a GORGEOUS day!

Check out these ladies groovy content:

  • Gen and Autumn put out an amazing nerdy podcast called Nerd In Transit which I finally got to listen to Saturday and Sunday! These ladies are HILARIOUS beyond all belief! Also Gen has done the most AMAZING Lady Loki cosplay ever! And Autumn, had me at (in reference to the book I brought) "Is that a Thursday Next book?"
  • Rebecca is an artist and writer and she has an adorable and fun web comic called Little Vampires! I LOVE classic monster movies, and since I've started reading this Saturday afternoon, I've been grinning at how genuinely fun the comic is! There's not just vampire, but also Frank (Frankenstein's monster), and Wolfie (wolfman!). This comic in particular had me literally LOL!
  • Tomika is a fellow book-lover and artist! Her blog features some great reviews and book musings at her blog book/art/love!
  • Brooke  is the writer of The Adventure is Afoot (who had a GREAT countdown to Sherlock series) and I'm excited to read what's next as her countdown to..., and her Sherlock recaps were really fun reads!
  • The lovely Syl made us these awesome bookmarks for our book themed meet! All of us were stunned/happy/squeed! It's like having a little bit of Benedict of our own! Seriously: Thank you!!!!

Thank you @syllykay!
Sunday after church we went to this eat out as a group, and we all sang AC/DC and Journey and Meatloaf at our dining table...we were those people.
Hope the rest of your week is fantastic!

What did you do this weekend? Any plans for this upcoming one?

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Fa Mulan

Of all the Disney Princesses, Fa Mulan was the first bad-a$$! (yes, I too could argue the "princess" semantics but in the words of Captain Jack Sparrow "for what point and purpose" savvy?)
via
The movie had this great animation style, and a great message about being true to you!!!
via
I always thought the songs were great because "I'll Make a Man Out of You" was hilarious because there were all these preconceived notions of strength being something only a man could have, but Mulan (a young woman) aced all of these "manly requisites." Your strength, is your ability to persevere, and in turn, you succeed.
Also Reflection hit me on a pretty emotional level too. I digress...let me just end the feels here and...

heehee...see what I did there?
(if you made the GIF lemme know!)
There are a few Disney Princess inspired shirts for working out in, and when I saw this one, I knew I had my muse!
via

Since it's winter, I would put this long sleeve tee beneath it to keep a bit toasty:
via
And to match her skirt were these gym shorts. I like that the band looks thick on these as, I like to have my shorts stay still when I work out, and don't have to worry about them slipping, or riding up (while running).
via
For cold weather, check out these cool and fun printed thermal leggings!

Since the weather is about to be RAINY (huzzah!) I figure a hoodie is rather apt...and this looks like a good fit!
via
I think these shoes are a good wrap up in the Mulan workout scheme! The red laces are the perfect touch (to me) in bringing things together!
via
Like I said...I love the Mulan shirt because it reminds me of squats. But you know what?

I HATE squats. I really do. I don't ever do them correctly. I don't mind that they hurt, but I don't know what's wrong with me. Luckily, Nicole at Pumps and Iron puts some AWESOME workouts on her blog for free. And this one's only 25 minutes! You can do this at home, or  in a gym!

And when you get back from the track/trail/weight room/etc.: relax with this Fa Mulan inspired candle. Because if you do squats, the above exercise: I promise you'll be sore!

Finally, we wrap up with what I like to call: "Bad-A! Mulan Playlist" just so you know, its gunna hit you hard like a sword from a warrior princess! (Also, I feel like its a good pre-board meeting/school presentation/running hills/lifting weights type of playlist--I was a bit selfish this week :P)

Birthday Wish List!

This is my birthday week and I've seen some of my FAVORITE bloggers post birthday wishlists, and since I REALLY like the idea, I thought I would do the same! (Thank you ladies!)

Joie's Birthday Wishlist!!!
Birthday Wishes for 2014!

1). Ok, so MAYBE I already got this for myself for my birthday. And MAYBE I'm a bit obsessed with of a CatBug fan. But can you blame me?!?!

2). I'm in need of a biker jacket to deck out, and purple or green are the colors I need!

3). If you haven't seen The Mighty Boosh...I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. But you know what? It's ok, cause you can get the COMPLETE series and catch up! (just buy me a copy eh?)

4). This is out of my budget, but damn! This ring is wicked sweet! I have a costume Nana Osaki ring that's based on a previous Vivienne ring and I LOVE wearing it. But, this one is purple...so, I mean, I'm just saying.

5). I love the Island of Misfit Toys, and the little elephant (and King Moonracer) are my island faves. Since I've been collecting POP! Figures since my dad bought my first one a few years back, I've had an addiction to them. And I just can't say no to his little face!

6). I got a free sample of this for my birthday month from Sephora. It's Make Up Forever: Rouge Artist in "N9 Copper Pink" and I REALLY like it! Alas, they are perpetually out of stock on the darn thing!

7). Oh, sweet, sweet Disneyland pass...*sigh* you are what my dreams are not-so-secretly made of! If only petrol prices would decline; then, land of Disney; you would be mine!

8). Grape Docs = life goal/bucket list item fulfillment! I have two black pairs that I bought the moment I knew I was done growing. I just want my purple ones!

9). I am sorted Slytherin (like Merlin, and a wizard I won't talk about) and this swimsuit would TOTALLY be awesome to wear. School Spirit and junk you know!?

10). I love this bag! One day Vivienne...ONE DAAAAY! **shakes fist**

I'm excited for this week! I took my birthday off (my own personal holiday)! I honestly have NO IDEA what I'm going to do, but, I'm going to do something in my city I've never done before, so, yeah!

What's something in your hometown that you've always wanted to give a shot, but haven't done so yet?

Your First Time...

What is/was your first FANDOM memory?
My first memory is watching Star Wars with my family.
A little bit of history:

My dad grew up during the 60's, and collected a lot of comics. He even had a Spider-Man number one!

That is until his mom's--my Big Mama's--house caught fire. All the comics were gone, but thank God she made it out!

He also watched the old Batman series with Adam West. He loved the adventures, the utility belt, and of course the boss-est car to ever roam the earth: the Batmobile!

Later, he saw the premiere of Star Trek! He like many people  loved the stories! The writing spoke to, and continues to speak to people. Also, he loved Roddenberry and crew's vision of the future which included ALL people of all backgrounds! AND a future where it wasn't just us Earthlings, but some aliens as well.

In his late 20's Star Wars A New Hope came out. Light sabers, space saga, and DARTH-frakking-VADER! How could he not like it? and then, in 1980, The Empire Strikes Back came out, and we met Lando Calrissian, Jedi Master Yoda, saw the ice planet Hoth, and learned one of the greatest shockers of all time:

And with the Return of the Jedi helped signal a new era for my dad: fatherhood! Via your's truly!

With this change my father became a Jedi master in his own right and we--my siblings and I--his young padawans.

Which comes down to me.

Growing up, I know we watched Star Trek, and my dad got us into action figures pretty early on. And the old Batman show?

KUSI 9/51 used to play it all the time (I've kept my old KUSI Kids Club Card all these years). We even have a VHS tape full of episodes including Black Widow (not the Marvel assassin, but an older bank robber). Like my dad, I loved the Batmobile and wanted my own utility belt.

My dad would watch these shows with us, and my mom would watch us all play together. We all had
I'll admit, I'm blessed to have parents that let us play cool games, and read awesome books, rather than being the superstitious kind.

But Star Wars? I LOVED Star Wars!!! I wanted a light saber more than anything in the world. And I definitely wanted to be able to wield the force. The Millenium Falcon; Han Solo; Leia; Luke; Yoda; Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi!

To me, Star Wars was brilliant because it can be enjoyed at any age. Leia was a smart diplomat with a warrior streak. Luke was a sincere kid trying to make his way; Han was the quintessential bad boy with a heart of gold! It was awesome! I liked how at the end of the trilogy Vader redeemed himself and did the right thing in the end and gets to be with Obi-Wan and Yoda (sorry, but I do have the original theatrical versions, and I prefer it...can't help it).

To go back to the opening question:
What is/was your first FANDOM memory?
Was it a video game? The star who played your favorite hero? Something you watched with one of your favorite people?

Please share in the comments! And if you want to write, or have written a post, share a bit about it AND link to your post in the comment box yo'! I would love to read it!
