Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Finn x Fionna

Today we wrap up April and this current edition of Adventure Time Workout Cosplay (not the last, I promise)!

My my, this month flew by!!!

Last we have the main heroes of Adventure time. I consider Finn and Fionna one in the same. But I figured if you wanted to make a matching adventurer workout outfit for someone who prefers "dude duds" ("guy clothes") well, here's some workout cosplay for them as well!

I was mostly inspired by trail/outdoor running and that's why the shoes, GPS watch and, activity tracker!
Without further ado, let's wrap this mother up!

Finn x Fionna

1 & 9). His and Hers ClimaChill Shirt-These shirts look pretty darn comfy, and since the weather is heating up, the mesh helps ventilate your body and, the metal dots on the inside of the shirts take the heat away from the skin...perfect if you're snuggling up to to some hot royals!
2). Men's Fly Shorts - Ok, all I'm saying is I think women want pockets too. Luckily, clothes are universal and I am not adverse to wearing these. But they are nice meshy cooling off goodness (alas, as a short person I look even shorter in long shorts...tall ladies: you so lucky!).
3). Free 5.0+ Running Shoe - This shoe claims to be a barefoot running experience. So if you're not quite sure you want to get your feet tough (or, if you get nauseous at the site of the most comfortable shoes in the world) you might want to try these puppies out.
4). FitBit Flex Activity/Sleep Monitor - I use the cheaper version of this for walking (mine's just a pedometer) and I really like it. It syncs to an app, and, My Fitness Pal. I do like the idea of it telling me of my sleep patterns and possibly helping in that area (which mine, does not).
5). GPS Watch with TomTom - so you're hitting trails and stuff and let's say you decide to take an adventure and explore. But your dog isn't like Jake and can't communicate to you the way to get back on the path and darn it your lost! Enter this lovely to help you find your way back to where you need to be (sorry, I'm a worst-case-scenario person at times).
6). Merrill Barefoot Run Trail Road Glove - so I feel like the shoe's name pretty much sums that up, don't you? LOL
7). Wet Seal Knee High Striped Socks - self explanatory, and more importantly I feel like running in thigh highs might not be too comfy. but the knee highs should protect your shins from brambles (all my fellow "Danger-Prone-Daphnes" in the house make some noise!)
8). Mesh Shorts - I chose these shorts over the skirt simply because: I really like them! heehee! they remind of Proper Football (soccer) shorts! I like the colors and they look so comfy!
9). See above at number 1

Since I'm looking at Trail Runs, I thought maybe you might be curious about where one is near you. Enter trails.com and their handy dandy notebook trail finder! You can find things from Rail Trail running (running by old train rails), to ATV, to climbing, to cross-country skiing!

Last but certainly not least is your simple, Adventuring Hero Playlist!

Remember: April showers, bring May flowers! ;)
And with that, I bid you adieu!

Buy All the Things Thursday!

Welcome to another addition of Take All The Things Thursdays! I'm your hostess with the mostest: Joie Fatale!
Here I will feature some things I wish I had more disposable income to buy. Ready? Let's get started!

This Hook shirt. Cause dude: Hook is HOT! Seriously I am a Captain Swan (I think this is the name) shipper!
via
Also from the Hot Topic Realm this adorable Ariel Badge holder! I use these things, so may as well get a cute one, right? **adds to cart**
via
And I love these House Shoes/Slippers that are little K-9s!
via
This Catbug stuffed animal is too adorable! And I like the shape, since I can use it as a pillow!

via
And finally, this sweatshirt is in reference to my FAVORITE series...EVER!!! Thursday Next by Jasper Fforde (the series is Thrusday Next, each book has a different title). I Want this so bad! And it is so Book Pimp!!!
via

I'm curious: Have any of you read any of Jasper Fforde's works?
Are there any items you're super wanting this week?

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Jake the Dog

Man! Where has this month gone?
Did "Adventure Time April" fly by for anyone else? *raises hand*

Don't get me wrong it's been an a great month! I just wish it hadn't flown by like Lady Rainicorn on her way to meet up with today's cosplay inspiration: Jake the dog!

One of the reason's I quickly latched on to the show was Jake. Not only was he voiced by the same actor as one of my favorite robots: Bender--the lovable rascal! John Di Maggio plays another deuteragonist (sidekick/second protaganist)!

Also, Jake is a loyal friend to Finn! They both go on crazy adventures full of daring and rescue in the land of Ooo!

And here for you are some Jake inspired Adventure-ready workout items:
Jake the Dog Workout Fitness Cosplay

Jake the Dog Workout Fitness Cosplay by joie-fatale

1). Track Jacket - I really like this track jacket! Like orange, yellow is not one of my favorite colors to wear. But this yellow is a nice spring pastel, that isn't overwhelmingly daffodil-like. Also--as with all the other pieces--this can easily complement some white pieces for a Cake ;)
2). Iron-on Patch - I would use this super cute to iron on the track jacket...over my heart...cause Jake *hearts* Lady R! :]
3). Techfit Sportsbra - Just in case you detest yellow, you can have Jake close to your heart with this supportive, and, cooling sports bra. It has mest panels to keep you as cool as one of the coolest dogs ever!
4). Studio Shorts - these shorts are a collaboration between adidas and Stella McCartney, and I really like their design! But what's really cool about these shorts is that there are pockets!!! With snap closures so your phone or keys shouldn't fall out!
5). Premium Basic Tee - with all the spring breezes, and warm sunny rays, this jersey tee will keep you nice and cool with it's mesh shoulder panels, and it's scoop neck. I really like the curved hem too!
6). Run Seven-Eight Tights - So, not technically tights, but, not normal capris either. These puppies will give a lot of room to move and be flexible just like Jake! They also have a zipped pocket on the bum!
7). SeeYa LS - comfort beyond measure, like Jake (and other pups) you too can run more naturally and almost barefoot!!! The SeeYa's are especially light and extra flexible to encourage a more natural movement when running!
8). Pet Collar - While I'm more of a cat person, I'll admit one of the best workout buddies besides your friends--hands down has to be, a well behaved dog. They will learn your schedule and on the days you don't want to workout? Well, tough! They got used to that afternoon/evening walk and you kind of have to take them. Just be courteous and keep your pet leashed. But this collar can be for any pet, and I'm not ashamed to admit: I've walked a cat! They enjoy going out too! Well, some of them do.

Anyway, I would normally post a video, but keeping the pet theme in mind, here are some exercises for you and your dog: here, here, here and here.
You could do these with your cat,  but I'm sure they will scratch the crap out of you.

And your playlist:

Do you own a pet? Do you workout with them at all? Will you now, if you haven't before?

Buy All the Things Thursday!

Hello and welcome to:

I know I'm not the only one with this issue, right?

This Tinkerbell shirt is so, so, soooo cute! I can't stand the fact that I don't have it (heehee).

via

This CUTE Gothic Lolita pouch! I love make up bags...but don't have enough use for them. But still...

via

And how cute is this stamp?!?! I would use it on EVERYTHING! Probably even getting into some trouble for using it everywhere, but whatever! It's cute!
via
I've restarted my animal Crossing New Leaf on my work lunch breaks, and gosh darn-it: Isabelle is just so cute! I really like this Maple wood necklace charm too!
via
Last, but not least, this BEAUTIFUL skirt by Rooby Lane! I LOVE it! Seriously, it's gorgeous!
via
And those are a few finds I am adoring this week!!!
Are there any items that have caught your eye this week?

For Cereal?!?!

Want to hear an interesting story that just happened?
We have a wall, and then, my cubicle’s wall; there’s a gap between them. My cubicle’s wall is 5’9”. So when something falls, it’s practically gone for good!
I had a Ziploc bag of cereal. My co-worker said she was hungry. i hand her the bag and she goes "I don't want any more healthy food!" This we joke about--making her healthy, cause she loves McD's--so I go on and do an impression and am like "NO! Eff eating healthy!" while holding said bag of cereal in my left hand, and—at the end of my sentence—I bat at the bag with my right hand…
Well, I must have had She-Hulk mode on or something cause I just “volleyed” that bag over my cubicle’s wall, and directly into the gap between!
And so my coworker and I are like “WTF?!?! That seriously just happened!” and we get to thinking, CRAP! There’s going to be mice and roaches (we’re in a crappy little bungalow) all up in our space. So I come up with a “genius” and “scientific” plan to grab the bag!
I stand on the desk and pull our office vacuum up on to my desk and fasten ALL the tubes/attachments to the tube thingy. And after a game that felt like “the claw”…I retrieved the bag of cereal! I'm pretty sure I just made Thursday interesting. Or, at least, entertaining!
Welcome to Wonderland! We’re ALL mad here!!!
The End

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Marceline the Vampire Queen

My favorite character from Adventure Time will be today's Workout Cosplay character.

Marceline: The Vampire Queen!

Adventure Time is such a zany show, and Marceline is my FAVORITE character (followed very closely by Lumpy Space Princess). She also voiced by Olivia Olsen, whom you may remember from Love Actually (one of my favorite Christmas movies) as the little girl who sings "All I Want for Christmas (Is You)." Also. Marceline sings and has an alto voice...so for me, her little songs and ditties in AT are songs I can actually sing a-long to!

Also...that AX! Like...litteral, ax+bass= the most awesome of animated guitars since...IDK what! Seriously...Marceline...you are my vampire queen!! And since we're talking about the ax, here's your playlist!

I decided that if Marceline particiated in a team sport (I've only seen seasons 1 and 2...lemme know if she's played anything else) it would be a something, fun, but would allow for mischief, and some aggression.
And of course, something you could play air-bass and air-guitar with (**raises hand** I'm so guilty of this)!

Enter, Field Hockey Marceline cosplay!

Marceline the Vampire Queen

1). Under Armour Red Sonic Print Shirt- This shirt boasts the ability to beat the heat from this springs beating sun--you know, something vampires like to avoid--and has the ability wick away sweat and fight, well, odor. Also I think the print is really flashy!
2). Marceline Necklace - While I don't often workout with jewelry the only thing I can really ever handle is a necklace (I even had a "lucky" necklace I hid in my suit for water polo sometimes). And This neckalce is too adorable not to include!
3). Basic Blue Team skirt- While field hockey does allow for shorts (I mean, this IS the 21st century eh?) I chose the skirt for this as when I managed, our team had this universally flattering A-line kilt for the uniform and we had ladies of ALL sizes, and all the girls looked FANTASTIC...and well, I wanted to join the team so I could get one of these skirts...but I was too late.
4). Nike Compression Shorts - And while I like the skirt, I do like to rock that late-80s/early-90s look whenever possible and these fun shorts would be great to layer under the skirt, and would bring in the signature grey of Marceline!
5). Nike Storage Band - I think I'm in love with this thing, so don't be surprised if you see it again! This thing is pocket that you can wear around your wrist like a sweatband. It can hold keys, chapstick, a small snack...or if you're on an all red diet, you can sip at the red dye! ;)
6). Brine Vintage Field Hockey Stick - Like Marceline's sweet ax, this beautiful red hockey stick is going to slay the opposition, and totally provide some fun pretend air bass/guitar playing (don't judge me).
7). Adidas Women's adiZero Cleats- Playing on a field you could be prone to some serious slipping and sliding on the grass, so cleats are completely necessary in games such as Proper Football and Field Hockey. This pair seemed like a really cool fit!
8). CranBerry Glitter Practice Ball - to practice for this sport a ball is required. And this one is super cute and sparkly! You know, adding a little glam to the ultra rockin' Marceline!
9). Shock Doctor Mouth-guard - Marceline would need to protect those fangs, and you should protect your chompers as well! With sticks and a hard-as-a-puck ball flying around the field, a mouth-guard is a necessary piece of equipment. But this guard is the coolest since it's flavored as Fruit Punch--the quintessential "red" flavor!

And (since I'm in a Field Hockey mood) some fundamental drill sets for this sport.

That's this week's workout cosplay PLEASE be sure to check out the Ice King cosplay debuting today on PonyChops!!!

Liebster Award 2.0!

Without further ado:

1. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Monster High. Seriously. I think they're adorable. I can't help it. I call it "The Flinstone Effect" where, all the puns, and gadgets are "monster" themed (like "ghoulfriend" and "iCoffin" and "gore-geous"). LOVE them!
2. Who would be in your dream Comic Con meet and greet?
David Tennent, Yazawa Ai, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Joss Whedon. Seriously, I'd probably smile so much my face would be KILLING me, but it would be so awesome!
From Facebook...sorry

3. Spa day! What would be your ideal way to unwind?
Oooh...I've actually never been to a spa, so I like walking this resevoir out here, and, I also like to surf/swim to relax.
via

4. What has been your greatest achievement in life?
Ok, While getting married was awesome (I never thought that would happen, but am glad it did as he's perfect for me) I have to go with: Getting a picture with Stan Lee was pretty awesome!
"Uncle" Stan and I!!! (I was much less healthy here than before, and
my brother decided he was too stunned by Stan Lee's presence to get a picture with us)
5. How would you describe your blog in five words?
Geek tries to get fit!

And with this, here are my five questions:
1). Why did you start blogging, and what have you learned so far?
2). Describe your blog in 5 words (stolen from Steph) , or, write a haiku about your blog (5-7-5 syllables)?
3). What is your favorite song that perfectly describes your life? AND What is your favorite lyric from that song?
4). I'm recycling this one: You get to have lunch with three people: one historical (real), one fictional BOOK character, and one fictional film/TV character. Who are they, and, how do think this melding of minds would go?
5). What is your favorite Manga/anime? If you don't have one, which one have been interested in the most, but haven't seen?

And my nominees are:
1). Luka Riot @ Rando Calrissian - a totally amazing designer who creates things right up my alley! A little geek, a lot of metal and punk! Be sure to check out here label Hellhound Fashion!
2). Desiree @ The Skinny Geek Within- At Skinny Geek Within, Desiree shares her journey to get fit and healthy! Also, I'm learning a bit about Tennis from her via her blog!
3). Amber from The Shiny Happy - Amber shares her life, and loves on her blog, and has been knocking out items on her "35 before 35" list. (Psst! It's also her birthday month, soooo stop by and wish her a happy birthday!).
4). Kelsey @ April Sprinkles - Kelsey is a super nifty crocheter and knitter, and has created some geeky projects such as the cunning hat, Hogwarts house flowers, and, brain slugs (a la Futurama).
5). Victoria @ Pho Across America - Victoria is a wicked ace restaurant reviewer, and she specializes in one of the most glorious foods this world has been blessed with: Pho (pronounced: fuh...like in "Psycho Killer" by the Talking Heads). Victoria also spotlights a lot of Asian culture; not just in food, but books as well!

Please be sure to check out everyone else's blog, and even if your not listed (since the list says five, I tried to limit myself), PLEASE feel free to share your answers in the comments, OR, totally do it on your blog cause I AM nominating you...NOW! (Let me know if you post your answers, I will put you up here on the post too!).

Have a great week!

The Frame Job

Last weekend, we finally, FINALLY got some frames for some of our favorite pieces from the past two Comic Cons.
I've been going to Comic Con since 2004 (a recent reminisent trip to LJ reminded me) and the Tenor has been going since 2011 when my brother kindly lent to his pass to Sunday to his (then) future bro-in-law.

In 2012 Tenor and I were married and we got our first piece of art together:
by Mike Yamada and Victoria Ying
Not going to lie, when we saw this...the Tenor and I "awww'd" cause it was our first con as a married couple (I have some sappy moments...I blame him for bring that out heehee).

Next we framed a gift from our friends Topher and Jay:
by Tom Richmond
I think caricatures are really entertaining and seeing all 11 (pre-Capaldi announcement) in this form makes for a funny comparison. I love that it's different shape too! Makes for a interesting piece!

Last up is an epic calendar we found last year! It can tell you what day, any date (say your birthday) will land on on in any year between 1600 and 9999 (you might have seen it already on my Instagram).
by  Russell Walks
And, I got a frame for this photo I won from a giveaway at Harlynn's blog Mind Your Madness, taken by Mandy of Ginger Mandy Photography
by Ginger Mandy Photography
So the walls in the apartment are looking a lot better!

This week I've been working on mailing some stuff, and playing around with clay. I've made a snitch and Thor's helmet so far (I blame my dad's love for comics and mythology,  Adventures in Babysitting, and, EverWorld for my love of Thor and Loki...and then Tom Hiddleston [: )
OK, they're a bit dinky, but it was my
first try at anything like this in l3 years
And Well, that's what I working on...and this here blog.

How was your week?

If My Blog Were An Outfit...

I'm late on this, but I first saw this on Sophie's blog, Sophierocious. Then, I saw it on Elyse's blog: Cuddly as a Cactus, and Usagi's at Usagi in Wonderland! And recently I've seen it on Gwen's site: A Geek and Her Oven, and, Megan's The Nerdy Girlie.

Each time I thought: "That is so awesome and fun! I need to make one!"
Well, I FINALLY have!
The idea stems from A Dose Of Paige, and, Hairspray and High-heels! I liked the idea as a kind of envisioning as to WHAT do I think about my blog and it's style.
Well, here's mine:

If My Blog Were An Outfit...Joie Fatale

I actually own 1 (I love this backpack!), 8 (my "signature" perfume), and, 9 (in different colors)! I based the outfit around my fitness goals, and yet, still with a geeky "Cartoon Rocker" flair (seriously if I had that jacket, I'm pretty sure I would become invincible)!

I tend to layer shorts and capris under shorts with pockets (6 & 7). But, to show humorous side of the blog (and me) I thought the classy water polo suit was grand (#bowtiesarecool).

I feel like these outfits should be equal parts the blog, and the writer as they are supposed to be hand in hand already eh? It's a quirky outfit...something that I would wear on the way to working out, and I think, since that's my theme for this year, it's an accurate representation.

Do you have an Outfit for your blog? Put a link to it in the comment section!

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Princess Bubblegum

I'm thinking April is going to be full. Full of what? ADVENTURE! And to celebrate, I'm going to use a theme again!
via
And so on to another Princess (trying to smoothly transition in from last month **winks**): Princess Bubblegum!

I like PB because she's a frigging scientist! I always wanted a chemistry set, and since P-Bubs is a princess, and a scientist how could I now like her (seriously, that is one FIERCE combo)! This look is a running, and lifting (definitely a heavy sweating session) since PB is always running from the Ice King, and lifting mad science gizmos and gadgets.

1). Princess Bubblegum Headband by WithYarnandGlue- I cannot run without a headband, and that's part of why I tend to feature them a lot. The other part? They're basically the workout tiara! Just saying!
2). ASICS Quinn Running Jacket - We are in that temperamental time with weather where if you're in the sunshine, it gets warm quickly, but the second you move to the shade, its all "shiver me timbers" This jacket is just right for that in between! It's moisture wicking, but will keep you warm until winter finally goes away.
3). Bionic Fitness Gloves - These gloves are really neat! Not only were they designed by a orthopedic hand surgeon, but, these gloves also promote less fatigue. So you can lift weights (or test tubes) all day!
4). ASICS Gel-evate Running Shoe- whether hitting the asphault, or hitting the Peanut Brittle streets, these gel-soled shoes should help absorb any of the nasty shock while running or jumping around on your exercise adventure!
5). Nike Women's Running Skirt - I'll be the first to admit: I don't know if I could run in a skirt. Ok, I could cause I've played some Field Hockey, but just running? It does leave me miffed. But PB seems like the girlie type and TBH...its pretty cute. I kind of want to try it! And since we're going with pink, this felt like the right character to do this with :)
6). ASICS Courtenay Running Top - we're getting to that time of year where longsleeves won't be an option anymore, and this one was too cool not to use! Since the sun is shining a bit more this shirt is extra awesome as it provides UV Protection on sunny days! Also the design is fun, and it looks like it might be reflective (extra safety is mathmatical!).
7). UnderArmor Wristband - wristbands are great! They're like little power bracelets in the gym, or, like mini towels on a run (wipe that glisten from yo' brow!). And these puppies are as pink as a gumball! I really like them as a place to hold a key ring-bracelet in place while working out!

Since we're talking about weights, I thought I'd share this FitnessBlender weight training video:

Also, some info about why you need to incorporate weights in your workout (to become strong really! It helps your core and arms. And if you wanted to lose weight, it will help there too).

Here is a sweet-and-pink playlist to run and lift to:

My Adventure Time story is a weird but brief one. I didn't know what all the fuss was about, and so I had seen many things and cool shirts for the show, and, I had done the last two Comic Con scavenger hunts for a medallion at SDCC 2012-13 (but TBH, I just really like scavenger hunts, they make me feel like Sherlock Holme, or, Hercule Poirot). Any way, last September a good friend was in town and we went to dinner. I asked him what the show was about, and he said that though at first it seems pointless, there's actually a darker story involving WWIII (The Great Mushroom War) and that it's technically post-apocalyptic. He told the Tenor and more about the show and I was sold. As I watched I saw very quickly that the shows randomness was something I could completely be on board with! And thus, the Tenor and I became fans!

We're almost done with Season 2 (YAY! Netflix finally got season 2 and our next episode is: Mortal Folly) and, you may have seen the workout cosplay I already did for Lumpy Space Princess (LSP) if not, check it HERE yo!

Cheers!

Sharing Some Smile-age!

Happy Monday Toonsters!
This weekend was such a whirlwind for me, and while the tenor and I accomplished some long overdue goals, I am exhausted.
So, I'll share some you tube vids that I think you need to watch.

First is this Jimmy Fallon, The Roots with Idina Menzel version of Let It Go. The Tenor and I have a major crush on Idina...she's amazing! Also: Paul Rudd= A-MA-ZING!

Next, I'm so ready for April 19th, it's not even funny! Sophie put this trailer up, and I think it's about time I did too! I cannot WAIT for season 2 of Orphan Black to start!!! If you haven't seen season 1, Amazon Prime has it streaming now!

But before April 19th happens...there is April 6th!

The next season of Game of Thrones starts this Sunday and though I don't have HBO, I have Amazon Prime! And I will get to see this season!!!

If you watch the show, and enjoy Mean Girls, The Breakfast Club and other classic teen flicks--and love the sh*t out of dragons!--check out this AWESOME parody known as School of Thrones:

Episode 1: Prom Night is Coming

Episode 2: Sexposition

Episode 3: Targaryen Burn

I am so amped for this month! Are you? Do you watch any of these shows?!

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Royal Sisters Elsa & Anna

To close out March's [Un]Official Princess Month, we're capping off with Princess Anna, and Queen Elsa!
I loved Frozen and, I'm dedicating this post to my little sister (whom I love too)! (^_^)

Let me start with Princess Anna!
Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Princess Anna

1). Anna's iconic magenta cape would have translated well to a hoodie...but that seemed too predictable, which Anna does not like. So, I figured, this vest would be good combination between her black vest, and cape.
2). I was debating this black longsleeve and a teal, but I felt like, with all the blue in frozen, the neutral of the black top would help break up the coloring and bring together the shoes!
3). These shoes in fact which have a GREAT combination of the colors featured, also have a cute polka dot design on the insignia!
4).I've worn pigtails while working out and the only problem for me were the whisps of hair that liked to poke me in the eye...not fun! So I think this headband is a great compliment to the overall outfit!
5). I'll admit it: I'm a huge Roxy fan! and so when I saw these capri's that have the Frozen teal band, and Anna's skirt blue, I couldn't help using them in this outfit!
6). And, just in case you're region is warming up and that long sleeve is a little to much to commit to, these sleeves (by Groovy Baby Action Gear, whom you know I LOVE!) would go great with this short sleeved tee.

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Queen Elsa

1). I LOVE this sweatshirt! It's so cute, looks so warm, and you can't beat that design for Elsa! I like how it has a snowflake design and is in icy white and blue!
2). This icy blue shirt is perfect Elsa it even has a shimmery print that matches Elsa's iconic dress!
3). Let It Go with these awesome shoes! It has Free flex grooves that will "keep you ready for extra mileage"...like the way Elsa hiked from Arendelle to her snowy mountain!
4). As much as I love Elsa's hair, I don't think I would sport her bangs during a workout. So, this headband would be great for keeping those awesome bangs off of your face. Plus, it has 360 reflection on it so it will keep you safe, and have you sparkling a little bit like Elsa does! (sparkle-age= RADICAL!!!)
5). How AWESOME are these training leggings? They even have a glacial look to them, and, remind me of Elsa's ice castle!
6). Alright, I'm guilty...I love these sleeves! LOL! There are three different Elsa types, but these had that cool point towards the middle of the hand!

And since this post is unofficially a sister and/or besties/your sister from another mister ;) post, how awesome are these phone cases!

Frozen won best animated feature (The Wind Rises was my next hope for winning) and it was well deserved. The music was so, so, so good, and Olaf was funny as heck too (whom I though I would not like btw). I wrote a small attempt at a review back in December after I saw it.

The workout I chose for this was based on two things: first, Anna's crazy rope climbing scene:
via
And, Elsa's dress and the shimmery shoulders:
via
Soooooo, here's a shoulder workout!!!
via

There were there things I wish the movie would have done differently? I would scream YES! in just as fervent a manner as I would exclaim my adoration for it! But I really like it! That disclaimer being said, if you haven't seen it yet, please skip the blue sentence below:
One of the things I loved the most about the movie was that the "true love" mentioned was not based on the typical prince/princess coupling. It was instead the love of family, and the bond that siblings--specifically sisters--share. That being said, I felt like the proper end to this month's princess theme would be Queen Elsa and Princess Anna!

Even if you don't have a sister, you probably have best friends that are sisters! These people are important and you would fight for them too! Your "Sister from another mister" (not to discount brothers).

And with that, I leave you with this "Sisters in Ice" Playlist!

Also...the only parody of Let It Go you need to see (caution: language!)!

Have you seen Frozen?

Recap, or, Where Has That Joie Gone?

Last week was a bit of a blur! the weekend of the 14-17 was a total blast. The Tenor and I had an actual weekend off together, which is a rare occasion with one of us working a M-F, 9-5 job, and the other in retail (meaning, our days off together are rarer than Legendary Birds) it was a big deal. That weekend also included our Second Anniversary! I REALLY enjoyed the weekend.

We started off with a visit to the North Park Farmer's Market where we got lots of organic, FRESH (seriously, you can actually taste the difference!) food! One of my favorite discoveries was Coastal Local Coffee! They even remembered the Tenor and I this past week when we went again; the hubby doesn't "like" coffee, but he's enjoyed their's so far (here is their Fb Page)

Friday and Saturday we spent walking Lake Miramar which is this perfect five mile reservoir (IDK we call it "Lake" it's just the nickname that stuck to it). There are 1/4 mile markers so that if you want to do only 3 miles, you can walk to 1.5 and walk back to your car! It's a GREAT exercise spot, and I really love it! There are bunnies, ducks, geese, and hawks all around. Also it overlooks much of the center of San Diego. On a clear day not only can you see the neighborhood of Mira Mesa, but, you can see all the way to Downtown and La Jolla and the coast (unfortunately the Marine Layer often prevents this view, but you can still see La Jolla).

It's one of my favorite places to exercise during cool weather.

For our anniversary we FINALLY saw The Lego Movie!!! It was (as I'm sure you've already heard) AWESOME! Everything was awesome!!! ;) We also got our "Cotton" gifts for each other as this anniversary called for it (we are trying to do the "traditional" gifts cause it's fun to do prompts, but still shop for each other individually for each other) from Hot Topic. I got some awesome Maleficent socks (I LOVE fun socks!!!) and Reggie got some pants for our Comic Con cosplay idea! It was kind of perfect actually, they had them in his size!

That went to our favorite restaurant Muzita Abyssinian Bistro which serves Ethiopian food (there are veggie and vegan options too)! That place is so good! We love it...a LOT! If I was rich, I'd eat there once a week! Saint Patrick's we went to Callahan's for Irish Nachos and Green Beer!

This week went by pretty fast. We got to visit a friend who is a chiropractor.

Oh.
My.
Glob!

If you haven't been to one, may I suggest getting an alignment once just to check it out(you know, like for you, not your car)? We went on Wednesday, and I was carrying a LOT of stress in my jaw (I clench my jaw from stress...soooo more often than I should) and our friend has what's called an "Activator" device (this) he used it on the sides of my jaw...I forgot what my jaw felt like pre-stress, but I immediately felt a difference! I also got an alignment and it was amazing!

Unfortunately This weekend I haven't been up to anything too geeky music or comic or book wise. But I'm trying to change that with the last few wee hours left on today!

OH! And some great news, I'm hoping to start some PT (physical training) with my sister's fiancee! I'm excited to spend time with the both of them, and, get to know my future brother in law even more!

Another exciting thing happening this week is, we will learn the sexes of my sister's twins this weekend!!! I'm so stoked! I've been calling them the "baby cakes" so far cause they are fraternal twins (this is all we know so far). I kind of "hope" they are boy/girl cause it would be REALLY fun! But no matter what, I know I will be a VERY excited auntie (more excited than Pinkie Pie)!
Also, it's the year of the horse...I feel like my nicknames are validated!
via
Any who, this end of the month seems to be speeding up...like a snowball gather material and speed!!!
But, that means soon we will be into April, and I am really hopeful that there will be showers! We need the rain here and darn it: I want those May flowers!

What are you looking forward to this week?

Wednesdsay Workout Cosplay: Princess Tiana

Today's Cosplay inspiration is Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog!
via

I thought I'd try to utilize my Polyvore account this time around. I'm hoping this helps on any load times for your browsers.

Princess Tiana Workout Inspiration

1) Since we are still hopping into spring, I figure light weight jackets like this Nike one would be nice at keeping the cold out, but not too much body warmth in.
2). I was kind of sad I couldn't find any Tiana Workout shirts, but this "Excuses Suck" one seemed in the vein of Tiana's ethic of "hard work pays off, excuses get you no where." And let's be honest, it's true in goals like working out.
3). I'm a big fan of Capris and I liked how these looked like water reflections--like the water in a bayou!
4). Speaking of water...Since I'm a self-professed water baby, you know I have to throw in a swimsuit! I love this suit's retro cut (albeit from the 50's, not 20's). It looks like it would look great on any body type too!
5). These shoes were perfect! They remind me of the design of Tiana's flower crown!
6). If you're already in warmer weather, you might enjoy these compression shorts a bit more since they won't be as warm.
7). OMG, I LOVE this bag!!! If you haven't seen Tim Shumate's interpretations of Disney Princesses in tattoo/pin-up form do so! I loved his Tinkerbell & Pocahontas design (so much so, I want to get them tattooed!) but I also like his Tiana design and it would make a great tote for post gym change of clothes.

Since this is Tiana we're talking about, and she turns into a frog via a curse, let me share with you an exercise that YES you feel the results, but, feel like a curse (at least to me) to do. I give you, BURPEES!!! You will jump at the end and get air just like a little froggy!
Tiana has like 3 jobs! You can make time for this burpee workout!
via
Oh, you need some music for those burpees? No problem-o home skillet! I've got you covered with a New Orleans inspired playlist!

Tiana is easily one of my favorite princesses! I loved The Princess and the Frog (though, to be honest I was kind of let down by the soundtrack) for its throwback to 2D animation, beautiful scenes and characters. But, what I really liked was Tiana's go-getter attitude!
via

She was determined, and worked hard to get what she wanted (no matter what the social climate of the 1920's south had to offer). She was self-reliant, and didn't need a prince to save her. In fact, she used her knowledge, and cool headed thinking to save the prince! She reminds me of another of my favorite princesses in the heroine/princess department--just, sans warrior training. In addition to being a beautiful princess, I thought she was adorable as a frog too.
via
Also Tiana cooks beignets...if you've had them, I think you know why that's a good enough argument. It is.

Have you seen The Princess and the Frog?

Product Review: Costume Running Sleeves by Groovy Baby Action Gear

On Wednesday I showed some groovy sleeves from Groovy Baby Action Gear!

Shop owner, Katie Dean makes these totally awesome sleeves as well as calf sleeves to complete a running cosplay look, and some fun flair! They're great for warmth, flair, and for danger-prone-Daphne's (like your's truly) a buffer against scrapes!
Ariel calf sleeves!!!

Buzz Lightyear!!!
"As a chronic over-user of the word "awesome" and someone who regularly abuses exclamations points, I have landed in my ideal place in the world. A runner myself, I started Groovy Baby Action Gear to celebrate the euphoria of the finish line. I also decided it was time to provide some seriously fun running and cosplay options for all those quirky, fun events that seem to keep popping up everywhere we go.
I strive to celebrate the uniqueness of every character, athlete and individual so if you have an idea for a pair of custom sleeves, hit me up and we'll co-create just the right pair for you!"

In addition to the items in her shop, Katie is working on some more AWESOME character designs, and she looks forward to creating sleeves: JUST. FOR. YOU.!!!
Be sure to check out her shop here:

And now for my first review!

These Little Mermaid sleeves are first and foremost: FUN!!! They are a pretty poison green, with a sparkly, shiny  scaled print (sorry, my phone is my camera, so I don't feel I'm doing them justice). Also, these could double as Poison Ivy props too!!!

The fabric is stretchy, and breathable, but sewn fitted so they won't slip and slide down your arms, but they are not suffocating or overly tight. I ran with them Monday and Tuesday. Monday was very warm and where I was running it was 78 degrees with a small breeze, and I didn't feel overheated at all with them on. Tuesday was more like 64 (I was even running at the same place!) and the sleeves kept me warm enough while my body heated up from running. I also like that if they are too warm, they aren't bulky like a long-sleeve, or sweatshirt, and can fold up really small and fit in a fanny pack or pockets (yup, you read that correctly: I occasionally have run with a fanny pack...keys).

Though they are meant primarily for costume fun runs (which I totally want to, and will do!) they are officially a part of my go to for spring cardio!

I give them 5/5 Kirby's!!!

Be sure to check out Groovy Baby Action Gear!

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

Being in the water; hair flowing in the ocean; and abs of steel from mermaid kick/swimming!
So I--like many a young girl in the 90's and today--naturally gravitated to Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid.

Ariel is a part of the feisty princess era from the 90's. She hoards has her own collection of ave the sea items in a really cool sea cavern; sings; and has aspirations of becoming a human. This desire starts as curiosity, and solidifies into a soul-bargaining-desperate-desire upon seeing dreamy Prince Eric!

It's the dark hair & blue eyes I think
via
Ariel is fun, and spunky, and lives in the water! She's awesome! And I have to say this is definitely one of the times I'm glad Disney changed a classic fairy tale's ending.

Since we're talking mermaids, and oceans I will start with a VERY cute swimsuit, that looks like it could hold up in some surf (just be cautious of big waves)! I think its adorable! (This and this are cute too!)
Top  -  Bottoms
But since I'm focusing more on running and lifting some weights right now I'll come back to swimming when it's warmer! ;)

After finding the above swimsuit at Hot Topic, I looked for other Ariel  accessories and found the PERFECT thing for all of us "bright young women" who are attempting to walk/run on land.
Ok, it's not seashell bra, but it is a really cool sports bra!
via
This shirt I actually purchased! It's VERY soft and dries quickly! And, it's Purple!!!
via
And these awesome, bright green shorts should not only keep you safe at dusk, but they are a really spring green!
via
And since Ah-ree-el (Sebastian voice!) wished to ditch two fins for ten toes, I figured shoes that emulate running barefoot were most appropriate! There wasn't a green pair, so, let's just pretend ok? (psst! "normal" shoes here)

Hideous? YES! Comfortable? HELL YEAH!
via
Remember last week's post featuring Cinderella? I featured this and this by Groovy Baby Action Gear from Etsy!
Well, she also has  A LOT of other character items for cosplaying geared towards fun runs and working out!
Like these Little Mermaid one's being worn by your's truly!

You can find them here at her store!
I ran with them on Monday, and, Tuesday and they were a lot of fun. I'm going to try my hand at a product review (hopefully tomorrow or Friday). But the one thing I will go ahead and say up front: They are so fun!!! And it's nice to add a little pizazz to your workout attire! They are so cool (and as my husband made the note that they can double as Poison Ivy as well as Ariel!).

And now for what felt like the most difficult playlist to come up with, but, I feel like I got to do secret "shout outs" to parts of the movie and other characters...totally beach friendly dude! (Also, check out Sade's Mermaid, it's too slow for workouts for me, but its so relaxing!)

Hope you enjoyed this!
Did you ever wish you were a mermaid/merman?

Get Your Geek On! (Weekend Recap!)

This past weekend was a blast!
Friday night kicked it off with:  BODY BEAST!

I started lifting some weights with my friend B!
Here's a glimpse of Body Beast in action (I use lighter weights). Starting today I'm going to try and get T25 in before going to B's!

Also, B and her hubby (who was The Tenor's best man, and The Tenor was his) have a puppy and a kitty!!! I'm actually a allergic to little Dove, but she's so cute!!! I can't help it! Here's a post work out walk where Dove decided to play Pirate's Parrot for me! I

Arrr! Dove be a cat that likes to go on walks!
Then Saturday morning, I got to hang out with the lovely ladies from our San Diego Nerd Girls Meet up!
It was a lot of fun just plain old geeking out with some of my fellow geeky/nerdy ladies! We talked shop, and shared books and went over comic con plans as well! Check out The Nerdy Girlie's (who organized this meet up: Thank you Megan!!!!) recap here! It was a GORGEOUS day!

Check out these ladies groovy content:

  • Gen and Autumn put out an amazing nerdy podcast called Nerd In Transit which I finally got to listen to Saturday and Sunday! These ladies are HILARIOUS beyond all belief! Also Gen has done the most AMAZING Lady Loki cosplay ever! And Autumn, had me at (in reference to the book I brought) "Is that a Thursday Next book?"
  • Rebecca is an artist and writer and she has an adorable and fun web comic called Little Vampires! I LOVE classic monster movies, and since I've started reading this Saturday afternoon, I've been grinning at how genuinely fun the comic is! There's not just vampire, but also Frank (Frankenstein's monster), and Wolfie (wolfman!). This comic in particular had me literally LOL!
  • Tomika is a fellow book-lover and artist! Her blog features some great reviews and book musings at her blog book/art/love!
  • Brooke  is the writer of The Adventure is Afoot (who had a GREAT countdown to Sherlock series) and I'm excited to read what's next as her countdown to..., and her Sherlock recaps were really fun reads!
  • The lovely Syl made us these awesome bookmarks for our book themed meet! All of us were stunned/happy/squeed! It's like having a little bit of Benedict of our own! Seriously: Thank you!!!!

Thank you @syllykay!
Sunday after church we went to this eat out as a group, and we all sang AC/DC and Journey and Meatloaf at our dining table...we were those people.
Hope the rest of your week is fantastic!

What did you do this weekend? Any plans for this upcoming one?

Wednesday Workout Cosplay: Cinderella

This month you may notice a bit of a theme on Wednesday. One might say it's "royally" inspired heehee. I thought I'd have some fun with the Disney Princesses, and do some workout inspired cosplay around them!

Today’s Princess is Cinderella!
via
Let's get the party ball started!

Since this is Cinderella, I'm going to start with the running shoes, since Cinderella's main accessory would be that glorious pair of slippers! But these puppies are not made of glass, but, rather, they are strong and tough and ready for TRAIL-RUNNING!!!  Walking and running trails forces you to use your stability muscles, and creating great tone and strength! Also, they are totally in Cindy's colors! (Also this pair isn't available yet)
via
Next, are these SUPER adorable running sleeves for calves and arms! Amber from The Shiny Happy shared a product from Groovy Baby Action Gear, and I was in love with the store! They're ideal for race costumes, or adding a layer of warmth to yourself. And since I'm going with a trail running theme, they also had a layer of protection for you. Mostly though, Katie Dean--the shop's owner--made really cute running accessories that even when hitting the concrete, gym, or trails, give some fun-cosplay sparkle and shine (you know, some Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo) to your workout!

Pairing them over these leggings will keep you warm enough as spring approaches, and affords one the ability to lighten up on the layers!

via
And this warm under shirt for a layer of er...warmth.
via

I feel like the headband is one of those Cinderella accessories that fully completes the look, but this one will keep the ears warm and toasty.
via

And of course Active Apperal's totally awesome Cinderella shirt! I like this cause I'm more of a Doc/sambas/five-fingers type of show wearer!
via

I'll admit Lupita Nyong'O really inspired this post too. She looked like Cinderella in a dreamy blue ballgown; the fancy, but perfect headband, and her inspiring and sincere acceptance speech. And then this twirl really sold me on this idea too:
**SQUEE!**
(via: some Facebook upload I couldn't link to)

About Cinderella, I have two contradictory feelings. My dislike is admittedly petty; and my like is kind of emo (Dashboard Confessional should write a song about it)! Dislike: Cinderella’s “sequel” / modern voice. I hate it so much (told you). I could go on about the prince thing, but I think that can be easily remedied (see below). And since I’m focusing on the Disney version (though I love, love, love, LOVE Drew Barrymore’s version best--totally watching it after I am done writing) I do wish she would have stood up for herself more. But I get it--that was a: “different time”

But what I like, is that Cinderella has this ability to really resonate with a lot of different people. She is admirable in qualities that are really hard to keep up under duress, such as patience, kindness despite how others treat her. She’s a hard worker, and is happy being who she is in spite of where she is. She's a dreamer despite it all! And in then end, her hard work, gentle spirit, sweetness and the strength from her humility make her stand out, head and shoulders, above the crowd.

I think with things like, careers, crafts, cosplays, working out, whatever we are working really hard at, we all want at least a little acknowledgement. To me, Cinderella isn't about "landing some rich dude," but more about having patience, dreaming/hoping, and working hard so that your dreams will come to fruition--despite the stormy tide you may be sailing through!

This  idea translates well in working out, and being healthy I think. It's about the confidence that you've been working hard on you and having the glow of health. You're doing right for yourself to become strong. It's not about size or shape, but about accomplishment! And that friends, is your frigging "prince" right there!

Inspirational speech end.
Thank you for letting me rant a bit!

Do you have a Cinderella moment, be it, work, exercise, a hairstyle you successfully did on yourself (minor or major)? :)
